The tragedy of Mac Time is really shouldering this back-end of the season. The guy just can't catch a break at all and you see he's on a race to the bottom as his mind unravels.
Fuck Japanese Elon Musk, man. Somehow the most loathsome Megalo Box villain even when we've had xenophobes and the yakuza.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Yeah, I am sure putting a crazy berserker mode into the world's most prolific boxer is never ever gonna backfire huh?
I mean, it won't if you treat it as a feature rather than a bug. He's planning to sell it to the military, after all, and they ain't too ethical in this show.
What's precedent ever done for us?If everything goes as planned and only the military knows, but I have a feeling that the reality of Mac Time will not stay a secret and might even be revealed on camera before the world to see. And I would not put money on the army wanting their soldiers to become stupid and primal, nor deal with the PR of using a system that is associated with a celeb-boxer beating a ton of people to death on live TV or something.
I don’t think a military (assuming they’re competent) would invest in the Rostco brain chips if they knew about the berserker glitch. They need soldiers that can follow orders, not mindless brutes.
Episode 12: Yeah, sure, just keep on laying on the pain. Poor Mac. He’s resolved to play along with Sakuma’s scheme. Cannot wait for that arse to get his comeuppance.
Episode 13: What a match to end the series on. So happy that Mac got to box with Joe on his own terms. And Joe might have lost, but he has his team.
Wow Sakuma didn’t accept the deal, and got arrested. Well at least Shirato managed to turn things around for the BES tech. Mac’s legacy need not be sullied.
Great that Sachio’s accepted the mechanic job.
Love that we get to see the folk from Casa again.
Sakuma did accept the deal, which is why he's only being done for publicly falsified data rather than the multiple layers of heinous medical malpractice he pulled on Mac. Shirato knew that for a narcissistic void like him, letting him salvage some fragment of his reputation was the biggest bargaining chip she had.
What's precedent ever done for us?Ah, must have misunderstood their deal. I thought the deal was that they sweep things under the rug in exchange for Sakuma losing the license to BES tech.
That was a beautiful ending. Just like the first season, a happy ending where everybody lives (actually comparatively happier given nobody gets crippled). I'm so glad to see Mac go out on his own terms and live with his family.
I'll miss this anime, man. Tailor-made for me and my favorite of the year. Shame nobody talked about it.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Well, lucky for you because even though it's over two years, this show got a new viewer!
Aight, I'mma start watching this show.
(NOMAD is on No. 13)
I actually decided to watch starting from season 1 because I heard that season 2 was one of those sequels that managed to surpass previous season in every way.
Oh, and not too relevant, but I also happened to be a boxer myself (amateur-level, obviously, although my main style is grappling). I...have a soft spot for any media that prominently features boxing.
I can already feel that I'm going to love this!

Already watched two thirds of season 1.
Boy howdy. This sure turned out to be an entirely different work from what I expected.
Admittedly, I thought this would be something like a mix of Real Steel and REDLINE.
What I got is, well, the original first Rocky movie mixed with a bit of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
I have no idea if Joe might actually become the champion of Megalonia or not, although I do know he at least survives to have a second season.
I actually did have the fortune of watching this anime more or less blind...and how glad I am for that!
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Finished season 1 and now quarter way through NOMAD.
First of all, it was all around a great work. I do feel that it felt rather rushed though. This could definitely benefitted from having two cour.
Now as for NOMAD...Jesus, this really is an entirely different work. Even though there are much less action by this point compared to season 1, this feels much more intense and engaging.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Oh yeah, I love NOMAD. They could have delivered a straightforward sequel, but no, they thought outside the box. What story can they tell with this Joe?
Just finished ep 9.
Jesus Christ, I already heard well enough about NOMAD being more somber and gritty, but this was more than I expected.
But I don't mean that in a bad way, in fact completely opposite. Because now, it really feels like a proper, unique anime of its own, rather than something influenced by Ashita no Joe.
I will probably finish watching this by the end of tonight. I got a feeling that the last episode will give me the same feelings that the final episode of Mob Psycho 100 season 3 did.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.NOMAD has an “indie film” feel to it, honestly. It’s engrossing.
Honestly? That's a pretty fitting description, yeah.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. And finally finished NOMAD.
Wow. What an absolutely beautiful journey. This is one of the best anime I watched this year, and I've watched a LOT of pretty good animes past few months.
NOMAD is truly one of the greatest anime sequels of all time, in that it not only told a good story on top of an already finished plotline, it even fixed a lot of the flaws that the first season had. God knows how less satisfied I would have been if this just ended in season 1.
I've watched a lot of good animes this year, but this is the only one that felt...cinematic. I'm glad that my initial preconception of this anime - that it will be much more futuristic and very much hot blooded along the line of Trigger - was totally wrong.
Unfortunately, though, while I am completely satisfied by the ending of NOMAD, season 1 felt really awkwardly paced and structured. So I can't quite give it the perfect four out of four stars, but three and a half.
Still, all around a very good anime and will definitely recommend this to people, especially those who love boxing.
...Speaking of which, this anime tangentially reminded me that I should also watch the rest of the Rocky and Creed films.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Yup, Megalo Box went from a solid boxing-themed hot blooded sports story to an intimate character study about a lost man. While somehow still having kickass boxing matches. NOMAD is great in every sense of the word.
Episode 11: I am feeling incredibly sorry for Mac. Turns out that he never needed the BES to recover. Sakuma forced his wife into a contract deal to let Mac be used as a guinea pig in exchange for finding a suitable donor for their son. And Sakuma is continuing to fudge the data. “For a better future” my ass. Screw Sakuma.
Loving the respect for Chief. Joe owes a lot to the man.
