Thread for discussion on The Terror, the new miniseries directed by Ridley Scott and released on AMC. The Terror is based on Dan Simmons’ 2006 novel about the ill fated Franklin Expedition, which was lost with every man dead by 1850.

In this fictional recounting of the Expedition’s last days, Simmons introduces a supernatural threat to the real story.

How do you think it stacks up to the novel? How much have you enjoyed this show so far?

How much do you want to be like Ice Master Thomas Blanky and kick gigantic amounts of ass?

I love this show, for the most part. The sense of atmosphere is unreal.

I am quite fond of Captain Crozier (Jared Harris is giving his goddamn all in this role), the almost impossibly kind-hearted Doctor Goodsir (namely because it's a rather grim show and he brings some human warmth to it) and Blankey is the most badass person in the entire artic, but my favorite is Lady Silence and her whole shaman deal, which is a lot more novel to me than British sailors.
