Some years ago, a few of us tried to come up with a collectible card game based on TV Tropes. Unfortunately, disagreements were had, tempers frayed, insults were hurled, and the project kind of petered out.

But I really liked the idea of a TVT CCG, so let's try again! Because this is a brand new effort that is starting from scratch and will not be taking on any baggage from the last attempt, I'm starting a new thread instead of necroing the old one (OK, mods?). While this game will almost certainly be played exclusively online (if at all), I would like it to be at least theoretically possible to play it with physical cards.

Anyway, all ideas are welcome. I'm going to suggest a few of my own ideas, but none of these should be taken as set in stone.

Ahem.

The idea of Magic: The Gathering is of two powerful sorcerors summoning beings from across the multiverse to battle, that of Pokemon TCG is of two pokémon trainers battling, and that of Yu-Gi-Oh is of two people playing a card game which is connected to ancient Egyptian magic somehow. The idea of TV Tropes could be of two writers collaborating on a story, but each trying to take it in a different direction. The cards in each player's hand and deck represent her ideas.

What would victory look like under such a system? A few options present themselves. One, if a player runs out of cards, they lose, as they have run out of ideas. Alternatively, there might be cards representing story arcs which require specific actions to be performed; completing a certain number of arc cards could bring victory. A final idea is one I remember from the old thread, which is to assign each player a numerical Influence score, which can be increased or decreased by various cards; if a player's Influence drops to 0, they lose, as the other player has completely taken over.

But that's just to get the ball rolling. How else might a game play out? How would genres work? Should there be some sort of spendable resource to playing cards a la mana in Magic? Bring me your ideas, everybody!
