I don't get the difference between Mirror World and its similar tropes, such as Dark World, Remixed Level, and Dual-World Gameplay. The way the description is written, and also the examples, it seems like Mirror World is the supertrope for the others.

My understanding:

  • Mirror World: Alternate version of a level
  • Dark World: An alternate universe version of a level which is darker and bleaker.
  • Remixed Level: A level which has been visited previously, but major changes have occurred.
  • Dual-World Gameplay: The main concept of the game is travelling through alternate versions of the levels.

Is this correct?

I'd say Dark World is a subtrope of Mirror World. They're about the same concept, and a Dark World is just that: a darker version of the same world.

Remixed Level is the same level, but with some changes. It can overlap, but it's also common for games that don't have real settings, like puzzles that consist solely of the puzzle levels and no narrative background.

Dual-World Gameplay is related, but it's a different kind of trope. It's about the puzzles that span the worlds, rather than about the worlds themselves.
