We took a pre-existing phrase; a phrase that refers to confusion and uncertainty in combat situations, (something often portrayed in fiction, by the way) and decided that, for no apparent reason, it has to mean something else on this site.

Why can't we just speak the same language as everybody else?

According to Wikipedia, the trope discusses a way to implement the real life concept in fiction. So there is no problem.
