According to Wikipedia, the trope discusses a way to implement the real life concept in fiction. So there is no problem.

We took a pre-existing phrase; a phrase that refers to confusion and uncertainty in combat situations, (something often portrayed in fiction, by the way)
◊ and decided that, for no apparent reason, it has to mean something else on this site.
Why can't we just speak the same language as everybody else?
