It looks like they couldn't keep up with Youtube and Facebook.

Which sucks. They really do need some competition, but noone has the money at the moment.

Not surprising. Vidme has had issues attracting advertisers, and with bandwith. Sucks for people I follow who used this, like SF Debris.

I watch SF Debris videos all the time, and since he switched to Vid Me, I can't recall an ad ever appearing before, during, or after the video. If they were hurting for ad revenue, maybe they should have fixed that.

Hard to draw advertisers when all the videos on your main page are "Why I'm leaving Vidme" videos and Conspiracy theory / Racist shit.

SF Debris was one of Vidme's exception and gems and they made no effort to promote him or do anything to attract genuine talent away from Youtube. See Foldable Human's video on Vidme. (I did very rarely get the occasional ad)

When it was pointed out to them what garbage their main page Had, their response was to re-do the main page so it would No longer display suggested videos. Rather than curate it and expose what few talents they had. They did include links to handful of "good" channels but crammed those at the bottom of the page

Creators on Vidme wanting to get paid were told to email Vidme and Vidme would paypal them what they were owed. IE: Vidme had no system to actually pay people.

Vidme's failure was long coming.

Considering almost all video-centric content is on youtube as well as the audience, it is very difficult to enter such market.

It's an oligopoly at best and youtube is at a point where it can't make a mistake big enough to push away investors and users. What is devastating for Vid.me can be just a distraction for youtube. I won't say if the website is currently monopolistic, but this is a tad depressing that you can't use substitutes host your content while being paid, and patreon can only go so far.

But yeah, Vid.me isn't a shining beacon of hope at any point of its existence, this couldn't be prevented.
