As the name suggests, I'm trying to build the military weaponry/tactics, governmental bodies, and overall way of life for the Grounded Sci-Fi Earth Occupation Universe I'm building, Homeworld (No connection to the 1999 Real-Time Strategy game of the same name)
The basic plotline behind the universe is that billions of years ago, before the time of dinosaurs, their evolved a powerful race of reptilian beings called the Saurians. Living and expanding across the supercontinent of Pangea, the Saurians were a bipedal, upright, intelligent species who believed that their kind came from a higher being who descended upon Earth, and provided them with a high amount of intelligence and advancement in special evolution. Over several more thousands of years, the Saurians developed several technological advancements such as projectile weaponry, flight, and other inventions humans would not know until thousands of years afterwards.
This period of serenity would soon come to an end, however, as the extraterrestrial, primatial Matoran criticized their serpentine brethren for dismaying the possibility of space exploration and species expansion, like the rest of the known universe did. In response to this, The Saurians declared planetary-sized war against the Matoran, which caused mass extermination of the former’s kind and nearly pushed them to extinction.
Exhausted by their war and after having tested all other options, the Saurians exerted their technological know-how to conceive a super weapon of last resort to combat the Matoran, called the Terminus. Using several installations built within the Earth, they built massive capital ships in order to carry the remainder of their kind into the Exosphere. Once there the Terminus, when activated, would wipe out all sentient life on the planet – depriving the Matoran of their food, after which samples of the remaining life forms would be reseeded as underdeveloped species . The Saurians and Matoran who couldn’t make it slowly devolved on Earth to lizards and primates in the fallout, eventually becoming the Dinosaurs in the triassic period and the primitive forms becoming - much later - human life. Delaying as long as they could, the Saurians activated the device and slipspace jumped into the unknown.
Hundreds of thousands of years later, In the mid-to-late twenty first century, humanity, the evolved forms of the Matoran, thrive on Earth as technological and trade giants on their planet. With Lunar mining colonies established and several expeditions to Mars completed, the species had yet to have a period of invention of spacial travel as did their planet’s original inhabitants. Suddenly, on New Year’s Eve 2076, the Saurians return to Earth’s atmosphere after sixty Saurian years of exploring the galaxy for a home (sixty years equals sixty billion years in human years). The Saurians initially offer peace to the humans, which proves to be a ruse. Realizing that the humans are direct descendants of their once sworn enemy, the Matoran, and with the aid of development in technology, the Saurians carry out a massive attack on Earth using terrain-destroying superlasers. These attacks devastated several continents across the globe, lay waste to the environment, and virtually obliterate their populations. With the death toll at 6 Billion, scattered survivors flee North as Saurian occupation of Southern Hemispheric areas begin. This mass attack comes to be known as the “Great Purge”.
The biggest bastion of survivors is now in the North Atlantic, where the former nations of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, in addition to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America, rearrange themselves as the International States, the last ray of hope for the now near-extinct humanity. As far as anyone living within its borders are concerned, the rest of the planet has become a Saurian-controlled human-purging ground. The united army of the remaining nations are now entirely dedicated to fighting off the Saurian threats and reclaiming Earth one small piece at a time. The Saurians believe that they came back to their home in peace, and that the forces of Earth could not retaliated as aggressively and with prejudice as they did.
