What kind of trope is Gonzo Journalism?

I was considering adding an example to Gonzo Journalism (regarding the article "A year in Stardew Valley"), but then I realized that the examples are all over the place. Some are actual examples of it, some are in-universe examples of Gonzo Journalists (with them not necessarily linked to actual works of journalism), and some are just Shout Outs to Hunter S. Thompson (which I think would not count in and of themselves). And the example sorting is kind of wonky, in regards to what counts as Real Life and what doesn't...which is fitting for something that blurs the line like Gonzo Journalism does, I'll admit.

So...what counts as a valid example of Gonzo Journalism? And what doesn't?
