So I came across Big Ego, Hidden Depths recently, and the description seems very similar to Inferiority Superiority Complex. Both page refer to each other, but the relationship between the two tropes is not clear. Are they sub/parent tropes? The Same But More Specific? Duplicates?

Would appreciate more clarification on this, thanks.

Just looking briefly at the description, Inferiority Superiority Complex seems like a subtrope to Big Ego, Hidden Depths. The former involes someone feeling insecure and hiding it with a big ego, while the latter is that and other feelings, but still hidden with a big ego. It's said to be the focus of an episode, while the other one is described as a character trait. I'm not sure that makes any real difference, though, especially since it's not bound to episodic works. There's also a fair number of overlapping examples, especially the fan works section.

Yeah. The description seem to make it out as a plot trope rather than a characterization trope, but pretty much all the examples seem to use it as the latter rather than the former.

That being said, is this a proper(ly made) supertrope to Inferiority Superiority Complex? It seems that when it's not being used in the exact same manner as the other trope, it's being used as Jerkass Façade or Sour Outside, Sad Inside,
