How so? I didn't get to see the episode yet, and I'll be busy for tonight.
"When I was alive, I was a tender soul. Now, I am tenderloin." -Nanako (Senryuu Shoujo)Wow, this series is just so damn crass sometimes. "Yeah, I'll have to stick it in her butt."
Nanachi is awesome, she's my favorite character already. And her voice is just so pleasant.
The Hollow thing is horrifying. Like damn, why would anyone even try to go to the sixth layer?
Abyss ecology is super interesting. But this makes me question - how wide are the layers? We know that the entrance is one kilometer wide, but I'm getting the impression that it's much spacier down below.
So wait, Reg knew Riko's mother? There's still so much we don't know about him.
Bondrewd's voice is the same as Griffith/Femto.
Bonedrewd did nothing wrong.
I'll be honest, I actually find the characters around Nanachi and Bondrewd to be more compelling. I mean, don't get me wrong, Nanachi is well written and their tale is sad, and Bondrewd is entertaining and offers some new concepts as a villain.
Buuut Nanachi's character isn't someone I'm too drawn too, which I do find to be unusual: they got a whole bunch of things I'm usually all about, but it's just not clicking with me somehow. I don't know why I have this notion, but I do still like them. They're just behind the two other leads in terms of characters I like. I suppose maybe I'm just more into the robo-zombie pair, and their dynamic with them is pretty great.
Also, I'm not so susceptible to charisma or the claims of "good" or "rational" intentions that I actually have anything resembling positive feelings towards Bondrewd.
I suppose it can be summed up as, "I like them but I'm not into the hype."
I find myself more drawn to Mitty and Prushka. The things involving these two are what reaffirm my adoration for this story. My feelings going forward are largely dependent on how the former is handled.

but maybe somewhereWe did need something lighthearted after last episode. The Hollow thing briefly made me think Reg was some kind of Hollow, but for some reason I doubt the curse makes machines.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.Bondrewd's VA also played Sephiroth from FF 7 and Yoshikage Kira from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. So yeah, he has a type.
What's precedent ever done for us?That fucking voice of Mitty's...
"When I was alive, I was a tender soul. Now, I am tenderloin." -Nanako (Senryuu Shoujo)It's so cute. And pitiful. And beautiful. Absolute fuckery. Her VA listed as "???" apparently. If it's the same as Riko's VA, then what's coming is going to be episode 10 again, uuuugh.
but maybe somewhereCatching up to the anime now.
Is the entire rest of the season just going to be pain and grotesquerie?
It's been fun.Naw, no- whaaaat? Naaaaw don't worry. There's more to this than just that, gosh.
That said, never eat while watching Made In Abyss. So, so many people did that for some reason.
but maybe somewhereI mean, if my hunch about Mitty is correct, then I think I can see where the next few story beats are going - and I'd rather it not be JUST crushing horror and bad things happening to children for the rest of forever.
Basically, I feel like maybe the series isn't doing a good enough job showing us why people come down this hell pit at all.
It's been fun.The series as a whole is pretty idealistic on the ideas of "children having fun" and "the indomitable human spirit"; this isn't a work where characters become more and more broken as the story goes on. I guess you're right however in that the bottom is really only alluring for people who get moist from exploring the unknown.
The rest are in it for the relics, and we probably won't see much more that'll be used for the rest of this particular season.

"When I was alive, I was a tender soul. Now, I am tenderloin." -Nanako (Senryuu Shoujo)It does do a good job at showing what makes people return to it, if you ask me. The anime, particularly. Of course, the fact that the protagonists are children descending into areas where only experienced adults are supposed to go doesn't help. Hell, not a lot of people ever get close to the fifth and sixth layers.
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo. The relics found there are so worth it though.
"When I was alive, I was a tender soul. Now, I am tenderloin." -Nanako (Senryuu Shoujo)Yeah, I guess that's true, re: Riko and Reg being places they really shouldn't be. Still, from a viewer perspective, it's hard to be excited about the fifth or sixth layers when it's less 'what wonderful treasures will they find down there?' and more 'what horrific things are going to happen to Riko's body this time?'
It's been fun.Time stopping bells. Super strength piercings. Gore Bag.
People have waged wars with these things. People wage wars over these things. The Abyss is as beautiful and captivating as it is an incarnation of urethral buggery.
It is true that not everyone will succeptible to it's allure, as it's preeeetty obvious that that place is dangerous and probably literally hates humans.
But then again, something being incredibly dangerous never stopped humans from doing stuff. Ain't that right, Oppenheimer?
But yeah, no, I totally get if people are going to be put off by this story. It would be painful watching adults go through this kind of pain, and it won't hurt less when it's kids.
And I will note that the upbeat tone has largely been maintained by one character.
Oh so you've noticed that pattern. Riko has been hit with every layers' curse so far. There's still plenty of the former, but the later is a bit more prominent now. But honestly, Every major thing that has happened so far has been foreshadowed in some way. The events of episode 10 especially were heavily telegraphed since the second episode.

but maybe somewhereI think mostly I'm just hoping that we get more character interaction and fun team dynamics once Riko wakes up and is stabilized. Reg and Riko pretty much already know each other's deal, so the focus of the story since leaving Layer 2 has mostly been on how much harm the Abyss can do to a person in a very short time span instead of the character interaction and interesting web of motives that Marulk and Ozen brought in.
It's pretty obvious that Bondrewd isn't going to be any kind of friendly at any point, so I expect that things will be more action/body horror focused until the end of the season, but.
It's been fun.Ah, um... Ah crap, gotta use spoiler markups. (no major plot spoilers, but it will contain info regarding where the anime will go, so spoiler at your own risk) Alright, here's the deal:
About character interactions: don't worry, we'll get more of that. Nanachi's attitude won't protect her from Riko's Riko-ness.
But... I honestly don't know how much of that the anime will be able to show. That's all I'll say on that matter.
but maybe somewhereThey were able to show everything that happened in ep 10 with the exception of a small discretion shot of Reg cutting Riko's arm.
Watch SymphogearAh, I didn't mean show as in, "Will anything be censored." I know how incredibly faithful Episode 10 was to the manga. Hhhhhhhhhhhgoodness.
3 more days.
Heh. Try waiting for the next chapter of the manga if you're this impatient. The last chapter came out in July.
Riko on the toilet is our long boat ride. And Splatoon 2 is to Tsukushi as IdolM@ster is to Miura. Oh, also, Tsukushi was busy helping out with the anime.

but maybe somewhereOh man, I hope Tsukushi finds time to make some fan art of that game.
I remember that he put up a picture of a squid boy on miiverse. It was cute.
...
I think I also remember that he's had at least one picture taken down for being less than... "safe for public viewing," so to speak.
My only source for this is that I hung around the image boards for a while.
but maybe somewhere
It might be the anime makers pullng a red herring but there's some very unsubtle foreshadowing in the end of the new episode.
