1. Does the trope require one be the kind of Asian shop owner who's violently protective of the shop, or is this one of those Exactly What It Says on the Tin tropes? If so, even if we're to use Apu we'd at the very least need something of him actually being violently protective of the store, rather than using a sign that could be bluffing.

2. While I get that India is part of Asia, it's not typically what one thinks of when one thinks of Asia. I'm not sure whether that's a point in favour of, or against, using a character from India. In case it's a point against it, here's Wong from Highway To Heaven.

[up] That first pic is way too low quality and in the second, I can't tell that he's behind a register so it hurts the "owner" aspect. I'm not sure that anything from the video is better than the current.

[up] You mean the video I linked to? It shows Apu actually violently defending his store, instead of merely claiming it. As the saying goes, Show, Don't Tell.

The point of the pic I posted is to be a two-screenshot pic; to show that the same guy behind the counter was the same guy pointing a gun in the next screenshot. (As opposed to just some robber.)

So, would it be better to go for an east Asian example or south Asian example for a page image? Or does it not matter?

It's explicitly stated in the description that South Asians are part of the trope, especially in the UK and former colonies. The way the sign implies violent protectiveness is enough for me. Not to mention the video resolution is way too low to be a passable suggestion. Keep current.

I think the current's fine.

I've yet to see the Show, Don't Tell point addressed; I'm wondering if the way I structured my post gave the impression that the screenshot was from the video I linked to. It wasn't; they were two separate examples. So I've decided to pick a still from the video and post it:

Vote for keeping current.

1.2: The guy looks more like the robber than like the owner. 1.1: Bad quality.

8: Again, guy looks like the robber, not the owner.

[up] There's no "1.2" and "1.1." It's all one entry; it's there to show that the owner is the same guy pointing the gun in the second part of the entry.

In case you're not the only one who got that wrong impression, might a crowner be worthwhile?

As for entry 8; even if they're not from the same scene, might an entry juxtaposing that image of Apu with one of him behind the counter be worthwhile, if only for Show, Don't Tell purposes?

Sorry but still even considering 1.1 and 1.2 together: the former is too bad-quality for anything, and the latter, again, seems to imply an Asian Robber, instead of Asian Owner.
