You called?
I have to say, the trailer makes this look like a "making of", but apparently it's a prequel. Odd.
Also, I need Netflix now.
Found out about this just now.
Oh snap! I did not see this coming!
And they sticking with puppets and not doing it like CG or any animation.
From the looks of things, puppeteering has gone a long way since the 80's, hasn't it? You guys think this could be the Game of Thrones of Jim Henson puppeting (in terms of epicness)?
...I love you Netflix.
I really hope this ushers in a new wave of practical animatronic effects. There's so much you can do with puppets now that you couldn't do ten years ago, dynamic effects you'd have to work so much harder to get in CG, acting opportunities that only shine through when the actor can see and interact with exactly the thing they're reacting against.
This look exceedingly cool. Netflix is on a fuckin' roll.
I just hope the actual story's good. Dark Crystal was nothing short of a spectacle, but that's all it was; a spectacle. All style and little actual substance. Once we see more of the plot and the characters, maybe I'll be a bit more excited about this.
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundWell, honestly, it wasn't any less substantial than the original Star Wars trilogy was, it's just that it was "weird alien fantasy" instead of "pulp space opera", and it's clear the latter resonated more with people. (That, and some of the world-building details were removed/altered after test screenings.)
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)I've got to respectfully disagree. At least Star Wars had actual characters. Okay, Luke was more of a bland archetype than anything else, but at least Han, Leia, Yoda, Darth Vader, and the rest had actual personalities to them. Whereas Jen and most everyone else, not so much. It didn't help that a lot of the plot progression and attempts at Character Development are told to us through exposition and inner monologues rather than shown to us, and text crawls aside, Star Wars did a better job of handling that by comparison.
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundI was impressed with the puppet work in the original film, but otherwise I honestly found it pretty boring. The only really entertaining part was the Chamberlain.
Hopefully this will be an improvement on that front.

It probably will be an improvement, if only because it has time to avoid feeling like it's adapting part 5 of 5 of source material that doesn't exist.
Not Three Laws compliant. The original movie is mostly style and very little substance, but it's one of those times where the style is so great that it's enough. It's not a wonderful story, but it's an amazing work of art.
Necroing this thread.
Lisa Henson and Louis Leterrier will be representing the show. And about time too, am I right?

When’s it out?
My Anime crush is LegosiSo, apparently there's an upcoming tactical RPG as a tie-in to the series.
I've never seen the Dark Crystal movie. I hear it's a trip.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.Sort of? On the one hand the puppetry and practical effects are amazing. On the other hand, the story isn't told that well and the characters aren't very compelling. It's Tell, Don't Show in the worst ways.
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundImagine if Return of the King was the only Lord of the Rings movie. That's the Dark Crystal.
I'm a fan, personally. The comics are really good, too.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireComic-con preview:
Final preview. The series premieres Friday, August 30.
I remember supplemental materials saying that ghe skeksis were originally more benevolent before age took a toll their bodies and they became more desperate and ruthless in their attempts to prolong their lives, judging by some of the lines in ths trailers that also seems to be the case here, which is neat.
Netflix is on a serious roll lately. First the Witcher, and now this...
Hoo boy, I can see a lot of nostalgic fanboys flipping their lids (in the good way, of course) right now.
