Same reason it was too good in the TCG: it dumps a ton of your deck into the grave so a bloated 30 card deck would have the speed of a 20 card one, with the added bonus of being able to have way more options than your opponent. The only way to truly slow it down is....to have a 30 card deck yourself.

Shouldn't release it in the first place. Duel Link have the advantage of knowing before hand how cards will affect the meta thank to TCG/OCG and choose what to release and what not to.

To be fair, the meta in TCG/OCG and Duel Links are WORLDS apart, things arent a 1 for 1. Thats why Fur Hires terrorized people for months while in TCG they got lost in the wind.

Yeah but certain cards are busted no matter the meta. Example like Grass, Pot of Greed, Jars,... It proven that self-mill is kinda too powerful with the most decks and cards like Foolish Buriel or Briliant Fusion got play so much.

Well, we're talking about a company who is idiotic enough to release Star Blast in DL......

My current PVP deck is Aroma, because it's the one I've done best with overall. I run it on either Akiza or Alexis depending on whether or not it's a 5Ds event (because they both have Balance).

I've also got decent Superheavy Samurai and Lunalight decks. Currently I'm trying to build Subterror.

My criteria for building a deck is "Can I get the cards I need without having to reset the box?" and "Are all the cards I need in the same box?" If the answer to both is "Yes", I'll take a stab at it.

I'm thinking about downloading the game to get my dueling fix during quarantine, but I don't know if going down that gacha rabbit hole is worth it.

It depends on how many decks you want to build and how fast you want to build them, but you can totally do fine being F2P. I haven't even been playing for two months and have satisfactory Blue-Eyes/Aroma/Lunalight decks. Blue-Eyes is my main deck, and I can win often enough. Genuinely good decks like Shiranui should be doable F2P if winning is your concern.

Currently I'm also building a for fun Valkyrie deck while getting 3 Karma Cuts, but after that I don't know what to do next. Cyber Dragon? Magician Girls? Actually follow the meta for Shiranui (that deck is literally everywhere now I swear) or Karakuri? Get backrow removal that I really need? Just wait and hoard till something else interesting comes? Lots of options that's for sure.

@Karxrida: I haven't spent a single penny on this game and I'm doing pretty good. The game is generous with rewards and incentives.

I'm not sure where to begin, especially since I don't know the meta for this format. Which box should I buy from first?

What deck do you want? Look up the key cards for it and start there.

I've never been good at deck building, plus, again, I'm not familiar with the meta or the game's card pool.

I'd rather not waste my resources buying boxes only to find out the deck I want is total shit.

Current meta top tiers are Blackwings, Karakuri, Dark Magicians, Shiranui, Cyber Dragons, and invoked builds with elementsabers.

there's also strong but not AS strong decks like Six samurai, Superheavy samurais, Metaphys, Necrovalley, Satellarknights, aromages (where most of there stuff is F 2 P, uses no U Rs from a box to function) and a ton of Neos Fusion based builds that can be splashed anywhere.

I would recommence Shiranui since most of the cards you need is in the same box, a few outside support cards are in other box (Samurai Skull, Gozuki,...) but generally the core of the deck is only in 1 box. Also at the start of the game it will give you some Dream ticket, i suggest trade those tickets for some stable like Cosmic Cyclone or Galaxy Cyclone. The same go for Six Samurai.

There's also something important I feel should be mentioned, which is how the banlist works. Unlike the main game, if a card is limited in anyway way, you are limited to that number of cards per deck for the entire tier its in. So if you have 2 enemy controllers, you cant add anything else in the semi limited pool to your deck.

The problem with Shiranui is that at least one of its key cards is an Ultra Rare, which means having to effectively buy the entire box twice in order to use it.

I like Superheavy Samurai as a starting deck - none of its key cards are more than Super Rare, and they're all in the same box, too.

[up] Even Wagon is fine played at one. And it's the only UR Card of the deck

[up] I use SHS for "do X Special Summons"/"use Machine-type monsters only"/use Lv. 3 or lower" missions, and I've never used the Wagon. It's useful, but it's far from necessary.
