Self-insert is the right description. Sakura is the perfect Possession Sue for them. The sad thing is though sometimes I feel that her fan fiction self gets more respect than her canon self.

Definitely. Soooo many fanfics where Naruto used the power of the fox to become the strongest person in the village at age 13, became a jackass bully who kicked the shit out of Sasuke, Neji, and anyone else the author dislikes but is inexplicably respected for it, and gets a harem of every single female character who all agree to share because he's just so awesome... *shudders*

Depends. We don't know about the Third Mizukage or how he ran things. We just know the Village is known as Bloody Mist before Yagura, but he popularizes the name, but Yagura had to take over later. He was the Three-Tails Jinchuuriki and the Three-tails, y'know, died when Kakashi stabbed Rin, so it had to revive later, be caught and sealed in Yagura after that.
