War mode reminds me of Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. That could be a very good thing.
the color todayOn the multiplayer side, this is looking to be World at War, part II, and that game's multiplayer was just Call of Duty 4 but in World War II. Black Dot Sights = Red Dot Sights, Recon Planes = UA Vs, and I think I also heard that you can choose whatever weapon you want regardless of faction.
I pretty much expected all of this but am still mildly shocked that they went this route. There was this teeny-tiny, naive part of me that thought they'd go really roll up their sleeves here and take a 1/United Offensive or 3 approach.

Some gameplay. Seems like you can indeed pick your gender in multiplayer.

Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite. The idea of choosing your gender doesn't make sense within the context of WWII. If this was the Eastern front (or the very last days of the Reich) I'd be more understanding, but why add the ability to create female Allied or Axis troops now?
Because Battlefield 1 had enforced tokenism for good or ill. (I personally didn't care about black Germans or women Russian snipers or whatnot.) So to keep up the tit for tat in the Battleduty rude race, they add historically inaccurate stuff.
"Allah may guide their bullets, but Jesus helps those who aim down the sights."Colonial troops existed so having POC soldiers makes perfect sense, but women soldiers in WW 2 is for the most part not supported by history. It just doesn't make sense, and frankly annoys me.

"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnFrom what I understand, women soldiers did exist in WWII, but they were mostly Russians, Chinese or French Resistance. (I understand on more than one occasion women soldiers technically existed in the Volkssturm but I don't know of any combat records for it.)

"Allah may guide their bullets, but Jesus helps those who aim down the sights."I did say mostly, sure they existed but that doesn't mean that female soldiers upholds verisimilitude. It just seems pointless, I'm all for diversity but female soldiers in a WW 2 shooter IMO isn't the way to do it.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnI say who gives a rat's ass? It's multiplayer. At any given time there are already going to be no fewer than 50 assorted perversions of history going on at a time any way. Who cares if the person shrugging off seven bullet wounds by hiding behind some sandbags or repeatedly squatting on your soon-to-revive corpse is a man or a woman? So long as the hitboxes are the same, it's not really a big deal.
Fair enough, it obviously doesn't offend me. I just find it slightly annoying. Ultimately it won't decide whether or not I get the game.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnThey were there, I see no reason not to include them.
Oh really when?Female soldiers? How many? Because a few Russian snipers and partisans doesn't IMO justify their inclusion.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnMeh, I think the game is all the better for it for including them. About time we recognized the roles women and minorities played in history.
Oh really when?Eh, fair enough. still there must be some better away of acknowledging that without shoehorning in ahistorical amounts of diversity. But I agree that it's a minor issue at best, it won't impact the overall quality one way or another.

"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnWomen were actually used on all sides as anti-aircraft crews, as that was one of the most straightforward combat positions that was far behind the frontlines enough for women to free up the spaces occupied by men.
Given the fact that the French Resistance have been confirmed to appear however, I'd say that in-story female characters will appear as them, if not SOE intelligence agents fighting alongside them. German women were also conscripted into the Volkssturm towards the end, as briefly depicted in Fury.
Oh my god... that's amazing.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnIt's been a while since we've gotten any sort of Zombies trailer that's cut like a horror movie instead of having a rock song attached to it.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.Agreed, though I will never not love the zombie soundtrack.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnAh, our favorite D(e)ad Space vibes. Former Visceral, never change.
Everything that lives is designed to end. It's made by former Dead Space devs? I had forgotten, that makes perfect sense.

That brings up the question: WHY ARENT THERE THAT MANY GAMES ABOUT THE FRENCH RESISTANCE. I mean if they want female combatants just have a series of missions from the resistances POV.
Call of Duty 3 had a segment about them, though not exclusively.
Blame the fanbase, especially the hardcore competitive scene. They enjoy the speedy twitch-reflexes and close-quarters combat, and immediately consider any of the maps with large open areas to be a terrible camp-fest.
Treyarch, Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward are simply just continuing to cater towards what the fanbase enjoys and keeps complaining about whenever it gets significantly changed, nothing more. So unless this game bombs catastrophically upon release, I wouldn't expect any fundamental formula changes even in the next couple of future COD releases.
