I am hoping that Obviously Evil Black Magic Girl turns out to be sweet and good-hearted just to mess with people's heads.
Good hearted I could buy but at this stage sweet might be pushing it. From what we've seen.... that grin in the OP is someone with a wicked, sarcastic sense of humour. At least to me.
She seems like an intentionally bastardized version of Saya from Blood The Last Vampire.
Watch SymphogearNew ep is out. Meteora is the cutest. Mamika needs hugs desperately. The plot thickens. Mecha.
I find myself not being particularly sympathetic to Mamika. Like, her world was probably pretty okay, and the implications of being fictional don't seem to bother her much all that much. So, like, if you're that uncomfortable with doing morally ambiguous thing at Hime's behest... then maybe just don't do that? Maybe, like, try to talk things out instead? Or at least take a step back and recognize that holding God hostage and forcing him to re-write reality isn't typically a good guy plan?

"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."Mamika's erring on the side of caution now that she realizes that her set of morals doesn't necessarily work here, as the fight with Celestia have shown.
That's as maybe, but a capable director would have told him to trim that shit down. Ei Aoki still got real problems with directing exposition.
What's precedent ever done for us?Yeah, this was an example of telling not showing. Instead of showing bad things happening because of Princess machinations, we have Meteoroica just straight up[ go "Oh yeah, btw, this will destroy the world , and all the others too. So like, now we have an actual reason to oppose her. How do I know that? I'm the smart one silly, I just know stuff!"
Alice-chan is pretty cute.
I was having fun criticizing those long, talk-y segments though. At least they're sitting around instead of walking in circles or some crap.
The re: in the name is what made me open this thread(seriously). What is with all the re:'s, I wanted to ask. I stayed for the synopsis.
The opening and the description made it look like (Re:)Anime Tropes: the Anime. If it at least does that, I may like it, I said to myself.
First episode was ok. Commissar Bland, Anime Harem Victim Nr.n+1 and Gilgame She with rocket launchers haven't earned the right to their names be remembered, for now. The Royal Boob Window, the character, was a pleasant surprise. Selessia is drawn like a mature character and has earned her name remembered at least for that(not counting clothes that earned her that nickname). She has a seriousness to her but is still fun and fun to watch.
The first episode was short and didn't explain anything. But the setup is there and animation is top notch. I'll watch it.
Edit: I had an idea. Bland's design leaves a strong 2d to 3d conversion impression. Like what would Snes/Sega Genesis game character would look like if enlarged and added a spatial dimension. The repetitive, minimalistic and bland attack move is from the same genre.

“You can’t be an important and life-changing presence for some people without also being a joke and embarrassment to others.” -Mark Manson.Gunpuku-hime/Military Uniform Princess (or just uniform princess). She doesn't have a name yet so that's serving as her official nickname for the moment.
Ep.2. Meteora Osterreich? Seriously? Meteora is a stone pillar monolith in Greece. Well, either that or space rock/necrotic flatulence related. Osterreich is Austria...
The genre clash is delicious. I'm sold! I'll watch this till the end.
That's cute. I might use that instead.
“You can’t be an important and life-changing presence for some people without also being a joke and embarrassment to others.” -Mark Manson.Or MUPpet, to her friends.
What's precedent ever done for us?Last two episodes were info dumps. Still, I like the world building and character development. I must ask, how can one person count as the creator of a video game?
Anyway, am I the only one that sees pixel art in Gunpaku's design? I have a . She is a character from "a dime a dozen" game from Game Crash era. Only lasting impression she made was bad one from the low effort put into her game.
“You can’t be an important and life-changing presence for some people without also being a joke and embarrassment to others.” -Mark Manson.I hear this is good. Is there anywhere to legally stream it?
Amazon Prime Video or Amazon's Anime Strike depending on your region. It's finally available in Australia on Prime Video since we don't get Anime Strike, it just took a a few weeks before it actually got added (but they added the first three episodes all at once and are more or less keeping up with the Japanese broadcast now).
New ep is out and its a damn good one.
Sota is one of MUP's creators, at least that's how the last few minutes frame it. Suicide girl is her creator.
Man, that mecha pilot is kind of a brat.
What is this? Government, that's reasonable, competent and helpful? This might be the most unrealistic thing that happened yet.
I can't help but think that they still proceed based on a theory that is unsupported by anything but speculation pulled from Meteora's ass.
Uh oh, that last minute reveal.
I cracked up over the mecha pilot if only because he was following the Amuro Ray/Shinji Ikari character tropes to a T.
I still suspect that before the show is over he's going to end up sparking a romance with Celesia. Or Mamika now I guess? Given he's a lolicon apparently.
Younger girls could just mean someone as little as a month younger than him, given that the girl he's with in the OP, who I presume is his love interest back in his world, looks about his age.
I did find it amusing how bothersome they found his "defensive" nature. Nice example of how a character trait that makes for a good show would just be really bothersome in real life. Imagine the frustration if they had to deal with a Cute Clumsy Girl.
For an infodump NPC character, Meteora sure knows how to take charge of a situation.
Nice to see Selesia's creator get defensive on her behalf. For a a dude who seemed so lame at the beginning, he's living up to his papa role.
Which apparently can't be said for Sota. Granted, he didn't know he had a psycho Creation running around. This is why it's important for parents to keep in touch.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimThe fact the reveal happened this early before the last of the main players in the conflict has been introduced leads me to still believe that MUP is going to be a disc one final boss and that Magane Chikujōin (shark teeth girl) is going to be the real villain of the show.
Ehh. The foreshadowing's not really there for her to be remarkably different from the others. It's a bit conspicuous that it's taken this long for her to be introduced, but that's all.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."She seems like the type of character to lurk in the background, then before long someone's mangled corpse pops up in a shady alley.
Lots of talking again this episode, but I don't really mind it. The government (and, well, everyone else) is believing Meteora way too easily, but I'll just chalk it up to her Information Broker NPC setting. Did love how sheepish Meteora was after she got busted for stealing military weapons.
Rui Kanoya is like if Shinji got out of Evangelion and was like "Awesome, I'm through with that shit."
Now let's see if we're going to find out more about Suicide Girl next episode...
By the way, have a picture of Selessia discovering her doujinshi.◊ My god, so many ideas for the premise of this show. Like an isekai protagonist finding himself back in Japan except it's not his Japan.
I had the same impression to be honest.
