I agree that Nightwing was only pretending to be held against his will, and that the sex was consensual. I'm more annoyed by the notion that they might have had unprotected sex- STDs or unwanted children are no laughing matter.

[up]So...Nightwing is into bondage?

I'm not judging, just thinking that's more Wonder Woman's territory historically. (Sorry.)

When that guy was doing goofy dance moves behind Batman, I was thinking "Come on, do the thing", and then he did it and I was like "OHHHHH HE DID THE THIIIING!"

On "everyone wanting Dick Grayson's dick"... this movie clearly wants to be a part of DCAU, so it leaves me wondering... why would anyone want DCAU Dick Grayson? He's kind of an asshole, both as Robin and as Nightwing. Especially to Batgirl. I don't get it.

I can get why the girls and guys would line up for the charming Dick Grayson of Young Justice, but DCAU? Batman treats women better than he does.

Him silently disparaging the Justice Leaguers felt kind of odd, since comic Nightwing is one of the nicest guys ever.

You know what's stupid? Go back and look at that clip. Look at when Harley bends over. She has an ass crack on top of her ass crack.

How is DCAU Nightwing a jerk?

[up] I'd say that usually he wasn't, but there are some notable times when he was. He was dismissive and condescending to Batgirl on her first few appearances (he got over it), and he was a mite aloof and distant towards Barbara when he was Nightwing (I wouldn't call that being an asshole, but I can see how others might).

Yeah, though, comic-book Dick is the nicest guy ever, He's one of the most capable and accomplished heroes DC's got, even if a number of writers and fans really like seeing him sexually objectified.

To be fair, wasn't that around the point where Barbara started having an affair with Bruce?

Batman was also dismissive of Batgirl the first few times. Robin at least had a good reason given that Barbara almost got killed and also caused Catwoman to get away another time.

As far as I can remember, Barbara never actually had an affair with Bruce in Batman:The Animated Series. At least, there wasn't any actual evidence of it on camera (I don't remember if an affair was ever alluded to in Batman:Beyond). My policy is if it didn't happen on camera, and is never mentioned on camera by any of the characters, then it didn't happen.

To be fair, Robin was only dismissive and condescending towards Batgirl when he didn't know anything about her (or her skill set, if any) and she was in fact an inexperienced neophyte (in "Shadow of the Bat" and "Batgirl Returns"). Still, he didn't need to be quite so insulting. I expect it's that to which people are referring.

Yeah, Batman Beyond noted that Barbara stayed behind in Gotham when Dick left because she and Bruce were intimate. The comics also had her pregnant with Bruce's baby before she had a miscarriage.

I do not hold anything in the Batman Beyond comics canon cause its all a fucking grimfest. What happened to Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Vixen & Hawkgirl was just terrible, dark & edgy for the sake of being dark & edgy.

They did show Barbara trying to get into a deeper relationship with Bruce, with him being somewhat uncomfrotable with it (and how I wished they kept it that way). They had a phone conversation that Bruce ended under a pretext.

And Barbara confirmed that she and Bruce had something when she talked with Terry in a restaurant. As much as I love this version of Batman, I'll never understand why someone thought that this relationship was a good idea. Bruce has plenty of love-interests with whom he never ended up, and considering their age difference and the amount of respect Bruce has for Jim Gordon, him dating his daughter is just wrong.

Yeah, his relationship with Jim had always made that pairing uncomfortable for me. "I really appreciate all you've done for me, Jim, so I'm going to sleep with your daughter behind your back."

For the life of me I will never get what Timm sees in it.

Bruce Timm has said in the past that he liked the idea because it struck him as being so wrong, and because it freaked audiences out so much and took them out of their comfort zones. I personally don't see how he didn't realize that those are the very reasons it bit him on the ass.

You'd think the fact that it's an affair with his best friend's daughter and at some point his pretty much son's girlfriend should have been enough to stop Bruce.

Hard to imagine this going any other way than Jim shooting Bruce in the dick. Or at least kneecapping him.

That's an overreaction. People sleeping with each other isn't such a huge deal. And marrying your best friend's daughter is historically very common: the next best thing to marrying your best friend.

Historically.

This is the modern day, things have changed. If my best friend tried to marry my daughter, I'd deck him.

I'd be okay if it was his son but if its he himself, it irreparably damage our friendship.

On what grounds? We're talking about two consenting adults. It's not like sleeping with someone is some form of aggression or defilement, is it?

[up]Well he's closer to Gordon's age, met Babs when she was a teen, yeah, this breaks up friendships. Maybe not Over The Edge level, but still.

I really like the Batman Beyond comics. Yeah, it can be kinda grim and edgy, but there's still hope and light. Diana still comes in to save the day against Brainiac and proves herself despite Bruce and Kal's skepticism; Warhawk's very existence is proof that John and Shayera found happiness; Flash is awesome; Bruce, Dick, and Barbara reconcile and the gang comes together again; Kal gets a girlfriend, so on and so forth.

Its just low-class man, low-class.

[up] I never actually read the comics. Its just when I heard the fates of those characters I had a no, just no reaction & was immediately turned off from ever reading them.

You're missing out on some good stuff, particularly from the Justice League Beyond line. I'd at least go onto read comics online or something if you don't want to buy a physical copy in case you don't like it.
