I'm building a story around Giant’s Causeway, where if there is a lottery-esque chance that if you step on one of the stones a miracle happens. Since a lot of tourists go there it happens every once in a while.

However the miracle thing is considered to be a myth, so low income characters throughout the world won't embark on a long journey to get there. So is there anyway to scientifically or logically portray the miracle happening in the Giant’s Causeway of Ireland to have an effect on other locations?

I'm going to assume the "miracle" has something to do with winning a magical lottery of money, since you mentioned low-income people specifically?

Given all the stones in the Giant's Causeway, I'd say just making it one that's hard to get to would be enough. Alternately, the magical stone is known to be in a certain area of the Causeway, but the EXACT stone you need to step on isn't.

Thank you. I'm wondering what to do though if people abuse the exact location of the magical stone. Maybe every time a miracle happens the magic passes over to another stone?

Also it doesn't have to be money, could be anything the character desires. And by lotto chance I mean one in millions, so any miracle reported isn't enough to stir up the world to pack their bags to go there. Although at the same time I want to involve a diverse set of characters.

[up]I feel like magic passing to another stone would abuse-proof it more than simply making it inaccessible would. If people knew that the one stone that's hard to get to gives you a miracle every time you step on it, they'd just build a pathway to it for easy access (not to mention all the people who'd step on and off it for hours on end).

As for this impacting the rest of the world... if a stockbroker steps on the stone and is blessed with supernatural luck, it's going to affect global economy. If a person with an incurable disease steps on it and is miraculously cured, it's going to be touted as a medical sensation. If a scientist working on antigravity steps on it and gets a sudden strike of genius, it's going to affect technology worldwide. Generally, the influence of the miracle stones is going to depend on what kind of miracles they provide.

Rejoice!

Could be the stone works every time, but you must step on it unintentionally.
