Murder, She Rolled (5e D&D) - Episode II

ADVENTURERS NEEDED!
After solving the mystery of Ned Barrowman's death and bringing the culprit, or at least what remained of, Wimsey Poncebottom, to justice, the rather curious band of adventurers better known as Golimar Blazes is now embarking in a new mission to the Needlespire, the main palace of the Empire of Xantrah, to deliver an artifact of most importance! Sources connects it to the necromantic White Hand Cult, involved on the incident of the recent fires in the Temple District.

For that, they are recruiting a task force in the city's main square in the next noon. According to Captain Fennis, Golimar Marshall:

"Only the finest of the finest shall embark on this journey, for it should be done with maximum security and speed. We will embark with some select candidates for the safety of the Empire is concerned here. End of statement, no more questions"

When confronted with questions about the controversial party of private investigators and its alleged damage to the Empire's and personal property he avoided the questions, although sources have confirmed hearing mumbles of "bahamut-damned ragtag bunch of freaking misfits" and "alledged collateral damage."

Game Thread

Welcome to the second story arc of Murder, She Wrote, a 5E D&D Play-by-Post RP! I am a somewhat experienced DM for this system so it shouldn't be so troubling. In this new adventure, the characters will try to reach the Empire's palace facing many dangers and obstacles...and the rest you'll (hopefully) help developing!

The rules are mostly the same as in the Original Thread, if in doubt, check there first and PM me second, with a few adjustments, but to clarify:

• Rule Zero As Always: Don't be a dick. Please respect all players involved in the game, and if you have any disagreements or issues to hash out, it's suggested that you settle them amicably, or bring them up in the discussion thread for arbitration if needed.
• Number of players: 3-6. Put up your sheet here from Mythweavers and I'll select them from the pool.
• Posting Frequency: It is desired that you post somewhat regularly on 24-ish hour updates. Uncommunicated absence of up to 48 hours means you'll be an NPC, specially in combats and such. If you're away for 4 or more days without prior warnings, the votes are open for keeping you on the game or not...that's a bit drastic but we already got a nice pacing of posting going, and truth be told, you won't be kicked out unless you really, really absent.
• Tone: It is still suggested that players play with their tongues firmly in-cheek.
• Resolving rolls and skill checks: Same as before. Basically you ask for a roll in spoilers and the GM will roll it for you; Being also possible to PM me with any secret rolls or actions you wish to conceal from other players.
  • Regarding Combat: Posts are to be made in order of the initiative. You can always check the discussion and RP(exemple) threads if you're in doubt of how it works.
    • Gaining Hit Die: Always use the average number stated for your class when levelling up

Regarding setting and character creation:

• Sourcebooks: I might allow something from other sources than PHB or even Unearthed Arcanas, but I'll try to keep it balanced, and will take measures in doing so (read: maybe not outright denying the class, but limiting it somehow, or even buffing it).
• "What type of character should I bring?": You're in Golimar, a very nasty city(some will say dump) in the heart of the empire, probably misdirected by the promises of a quiet holiday paradise, and you are a adventurer who just had a few quests. Why are you leaving town? Are you bored of the dog-sized rats, the rapant crime, the bad food and (lack of) hygiene? Are you after riches and glory, wanting your name to be stuff of legends? Or are you simply running away from said organized crime? There is much to explore on the world out there, are you just hoping to satisfy your wanderlust?
• Starting level: 3
• Starting Equipment: as 1st level, as DMG states. recurring players/characters already completed a quest so they've got an extra 50 gold to spend on their characters.
• There is a list of already existing characters of many, many classes you can play with, and playing with them grants you the mentioned 50 gold. Ask me about plausible Playable Characters and I can put up a list.
• Setting: Bog-standard Medieval European Fantasy, but there's nothing stopping your character from being a foreigner escaping from your 'holiday' if you're so inclined.
• Deities: The gods work in mysterious ways - feel free to bring your ideas of them to me so we can adapt to the setting.

I think that sums it up pretty nicely. Any forgotten consideration or doubts?

Okay! Should we start a new game thread?

I just realized that a short sword isn't a simple weapon. Can I swap out my starting mace with a short sword?

Sure. As a wood elf, you have proficiency with it and even scimitars from what I know...and at level 3 you had the time to trade it for something else(and I'm pretty sure a mace costs more due to it's sheer quantity of metal).

Just a reminder: Your actions should align with the preachings of your godess, or else your connection will be compromised with the source of your powers. Keep that in mind on important character choices...would you say she has tenets not very alike those of St. Cuthberd?

What are the votes on creating a new thread? I never took a gm seat in a existing game around here before xD

Edit: I've just checked, shortsword is 5gp more expensive, add your 50gp to the starting 10 you have and you can trade them and still maintain 55gold.

All the rest of you guys get 50 gold as well, if you want to spend on adventuring gear or a horse/vehicle, it is up to you.

I vote for you to do whatever's easier and more comfortable for you. I have no preferences either way towards either continuing the old thread or starting a new one. Continuing the old one would help with keeping track of continuity but starting a new one would keep new players from being intimidated.

Good point. Also, I think Daltar should post the updated sheet for Adelaide here so that there's no confusion and so it can be easily referenced.

Sure, we'll give it a day. But I'm starting anyway in one day since because of story reasons there will be no need of the newbies to show up in the very first posts or so.

Where is it starting out at? Depending on the specifics it might just be Adelaide by herself at the start until everyone joins in

I had a pretty interesting idea for where Vella ended up, though depending on how long it takes to get to the Empire of Xantrah I'm not sure if it'd work.

To be clear, modifying our backgrounds according to the customization rules listed is kosher, right?
