Legends abound of the lost city of Atlantis. The stories tell that, thousands of years ago, Atlantis was once a prosperous nation with magic and wealth beyond measure. The people of Atlantis proclaimed themselves masters of the world's fate. For their hubris, the gods sunk their mighty city and the kingdom was lost. However, some believe that Atlantis still lives, sunken beneath the ocean, and its magic keeps the city safe. The legend also says that the city's vast wealth still sits undisturbed after all this time. For this reason, explorers and treasure hunters from all over the world have been searching for the city for thousands of years, all over the globe: the Mediterranean, Iberia, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, Antarctica.
It turns out the legends were only partially true. Many explorers have found Atlantis nearby an atoll in the Mediterranean, and the truth is stranger than fiction. Atlantis sits on a nexus of magical power, and the citizens, after their city was sunk, used a great enchantment to transform themselves into merfolk so they could survive in their city even though the city sank. However, as time passed on, magic faded from the world, and the magic that keeps Atlantis alive is starting to fade as well. Citizens of Atlantis are disappearing mysteriously, and the lost city is now a shadow of its former self, the remaining inhabitants broken and fearful that they will one day disappear as well. Their queen, however, assures them not to fear, for the key to their salvation rests in the very people who search for the lost city to begin with....
This is Legends of the Sunken City, an oceanic fantasy game set in our world, present-day Earth. You are one of many explorers from the surface world who have, through some stroke of genius, careful planning, or simple luck, stumbled upon the sunken city of Atlantis. Shortly after arriving, you come to find out about the city's plight. Yet the legends still ring true in your head. Will you aid the Atlantean people in restoring the flickering spark of their dying civilization? Or do you seek the fabled lost treasure of Atlantis, fabled to be enough to make a man rich beyond his wildest dreams? Regardless of your intentions, you will need to work alongside some of the few friendly merfolk left in the City. Dark magics stir within the ancient ruined kingdom, and not everyone you meet will have good intentions for intruders to their sunken realm....
Rules:
1. All TV Tropes forum rules apply, including RP forum rules.
2. No godmodding, autohitting, ghosting, or other disrespectful RP conduct.
3. This RP is set in the real world, modern day (2016). Characters should be human and should not start off with supernatural powers. By the time this game takes place, magic has all but faded from the world, except for Atlantis.
4. Characters are OCs. No playing characters from other media.
5. Don't be a jerk to others.
6. Have fun!

Appearance: What does your character look like? You can type up a description or use an image if you want. Try to keep them to a kind of design you would see in real life, nothing insane.
