Current gives context in the text to be usable, but it's kind of weak. I would like to see the image suggested by the OP.

No, the other one.
For a single choice, you'd probably have to have a choice that's immediately obvious that it will have a significant enough effect that it would change everything, rather than the small choice of the current. It's a choice, and it's a final(ish) choice, but it doesn't seem that significant.
Also, it would be hard to avoid spoilers, considering the nature of the trope.
Personal favourite is the last choice in Umineko, but I don't think that would work as an image (both because of spoilers, and because of the weight of the context leading up to it).

If we do decide it's not, I suggest OFF's ending decision as a replacement.
