Yeah. My list is basically sequels (Gundam and Hibike! Euphonium), spinoffs (Brave Witches and the new Wixoss) and fandoms that are grandfathered in (the new Digimon spinoff anime that nobody even bothers listing). Granted I usually wait for Random Curiousity to actually start reviewing episodes before I add things to the list but this season feels even less interesting than others in my opinion.

Alright, what have we got here...

Definite watch

  • Tiger Mask W: Modernization of a roaring classic.
  • Syakunetsu: CGDCT, meet sports. Who knows how the balance between the two is? I'm hoping it leans more on the latter.
  • Nanbaka: Garish-looking prison comedy is a lock-in.
  • All Outs: I'm actually going to watch rugby!
  • Watashi ga Motete Dou Sunda: I smell potential.
  • Girlish Number: To make up for not watching New Game in summer.
  • Drifters: Oh boy. Cannot wait to see the messiah.
  • ClassicaLoid: Well there's my WTF-premise show of the season.
  • Long Riders: Yowa-moe Pedal.
  • 3-gatsu no Lion: Now let us all ponder our inner selves and determine the next move.
  • Occultic;Nine: Return of the semicolon.
  • Fune wo Amu: Looks good! I like my "un-anime".

Sequels (or Sequel-ish)

  • Haikyu: HYPE.
  • Ajin: What will our immortal lead do next?!
  • Bubuki Buranki: In it for more sumptuous 3D CG action.
  • Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans: Another season of child soldiers, visceral mecha combat and Gjallarhorn scheming.
  • Hibike Euphonium: I still rewatch the first season from time to time. Especially that one episode where Reina and Yumiko climb a mountain at night. If S2 has anything half as enchanting as that, then we're good.
  • Bungou Stray Dogs: Hopefully the writing is tighter this time around.
  • Wixoss: The first one turned out more interesting than expected. I have to wonder what this new one can bring to the table given how neatly the situation was wrapped up last time.

Checking Out

  • Shuumatsu no Izetta: Not a fan of war media in general, but we'll see.
  • WWW.Working!: My first shot at this series.
  • Magical Girl Raising Project: Magical girls... meh. But survival battle royale? Hmmm.
  • Touken Ranbu: Another item to check off the list of anime anthromorphisms.
  • Stella no Mahou: Club comedy. Not expecting much.
  • Trickster Edogawa Ranpo: Can't be as bad as that other Edogawa Ranpo offering... can it?
  • Soushin Shoujo Matoi: Art's pretty.
  • Yuri on Ice: Rare for any media to tackle ice-skating, so I'll take a look at it at least.
  • Flip Flappers: If we're lucky it won't be a flop.
  • Keijo!: Fictional competitive sports are m jam, but I'm not quite sure I'm behind this one... I guess what matters is how the sports side with the fanservice.
  • Bloodivores: Cringe-y chuuni title aside, looks like something I can take a bite out of.
  • Sengoku Choujuu Giga: Just to check out the animation.
  • Udon ni Kuni: Hmm. Not sure if I'm in the mood for one of these.

Not Watching

  • Nanoha
  • Utapri
  • Show by Rock
  • Magic-kyun Renaissance: Male idols and based on a card game. Nah.
  • Idol Memories: So many idols.
  • 12-sai
  • Nobunaga no Shinobi
  • Natsume Yuujinchou: Reading the manga.
  • Brave Witches: Franchise never caught my eye for some reason.

Definitely a season that's relying on the strength of sequels. There are damn good sequels in that bunch, though!

Apparently I'm really different from everyone else, since this is a season I'm actually rather looking forward to

The sequel count isn't particularly high for this season, really, it's just that we have a number of sequels of note and a bunch of spinoffs

Also, wow I hadn't quite realized how many shows were on saturday this season

The new Wixoss revolves around an entirely new cast so you probably don't even need to watch the first two seasons.

Also according to Random Curiosity WWWWorking!! or whatever it's called is based off an April Fools joke from a few years back. Can someone explain?

Not the kinda guy to watch all the seasonal shows ever, so I'll just latch on to two or three shows.

Yuri on Ice and Fune wo Amu will be my pick. Animated figure skating, and the grounded unconventional shit that I guzzle like crazy.

[up][up] The joke was that the studio was adapting WWW.Working instead of making a second season for regular Working.

(Though I suppose that technically, WWW.Working is the regular one)

My pick would be Idol Memories, Dream Festival, 12-sai, Show By Rock!!#, Digimon Universe Applimonsters, Monster Hunter Stories Ride On, Nazotokine and Heybot!. I don't know if my watching of the last two could last more than one episode, though.

So I guess I will also add Nyanbo and Kaiju Girls to this season viewing table, since they come around this season.

Guess, this one goes here:

Kaijuu Girls: Ultra Kaijuu Gijinka Keikaku... Not really sure what to say about this one. At least I didn't find it terrible enough to drop without even finishing the first episode... Probably because not much has happened yet.

Also, anyone else thinks that the what's-her-name long-haired brunette Miku looks like Homura from Senran Kagura?

Kaijuu Girls were actually pretty funny. Girls with the powers of Kaijuu is a pretty neat idea. Gonna follow it.

Hmm, not much this season. There's not even an obligatory "hype" Anime, I can't even ironically watch a shitty harem romcom.

Uh...I'll check out Drifters and Tiger Mask I guess. Still got Jojo and Dragon Ball to keep me company at least.

No hype anime, no harem, what kind of anime season this is.

I think like 90% shows that people care about this season are sequels and spin-offs.

Weird season indeed.

mwisse Since: Apr, 2009

No hype anime? What about 3-gatsu no Lion, a Shaft produced adaptation of a critically acclaimed manga series? or Fune wo Amu, about the heroic struggle to create a new Japanese dictionary? Or Keijo!!!!!!!!? Surely something with eight exclamation marks must be hype?

(Well, maybe not the latter).

There's also All Out, Drifters, Long Riders, Flip Flappers, Luger Code 1951, Shuumatsu no Izetta, Stella no Mahou and Occultic;Nine which look interesting enough to at least try the first few episodes.

It's just that there are also quite a few high profile sequels that make this season look strange.

Keijo does get that whole LN/Shonen friendly rival harem going so there is that.

If Vivid Strike continues the Nanoha tradition then the MC is going to get a harem of all the girls she is going to 'befriend'.

The highlight of the season is going to be Hibike Euphonium 2 though, no question. S1 was sooo good.

I'm honestly quite surprised that people aren't super-hyped for Classicaloid, given the worshipful attitude I've seen towards it's director

First episode of Izetta was terrific and left me wanting more. That's some badass Princess.

It's just the country names that left me snickering.

Shuumatsu no Izetta 1: That was surprisingly good. It definitely has that WW 2 feel. Princess Fine makes a strong first impression as the protagonist and isn't just relying on her guards or witch. No boring moments, but nothing too crazy either. I'm sure things will get silly later, but so far it's looking lovely on a character and animation standpoint.

Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku 1: That was more set up than anything. I always knew mobile games were evil. It's neat to see all the different classes the magical girls can become. Wish there was some sort of action, but that will probably come quick next episode. Koyuki is going to go through a lot of break the cutie moments. It was predictable that the boy would be a MG, but I didn't expect that to be confirmed this quickly.

Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.
