I recently started a forum about creating a new Ultimate Marvel Universe and i've decided to start one for DC too. The Ultimate DC Universe will be set in modern day with the Superhero Boom happening around 2010 - 2016. Some possible ideas to start us off.

  • Batman is an Urban Legend up until the moment he publicly reveals he is a member of The Justice League.
  • Lex Luthor, constantly wearing the Kryptonite ring, contracts Cancer, this is what causes him to lose his hair and make him essentially declare war on Superman.
  • The Riddler is alot more dangerous than he is in the canon universe, No one in the world knows who he is or if he's even a real person. He's like Moriarty from Sherlock in a way, He's a genius and is just doing this for fun.

Most DC characters represent a certain heroic archetype, making it pretty difficult to do alternate interpretations of them without drastically changing the characters. That being said, I've always wanted to see a version of Superboy (not Connor but the teenage Clark) that has certain traits of Spider-Man. Such as being scared, inexperienced and a nerdy loner. The problem with that is that superheroes are hard to do in a small town (there can only be so many villains, population and crime rates are lower in small towns) so it'd have to take place in Metropolis, which would drastically change the character in certain ways.

In my re-imagined DC Universe, Superman and Batman both would be considered more or less outsiders, who operate in secret whenever possible (and in Superman's case, he's been doing it since he was a teenager). They'd be the first superheroes, and would have struck up a working alliance with each other (as, being intelligent men, they would have both realized they share similar goals), While not going as far as to be urban legends, Superman would kind of be thought of as a guardian angel, while Batman was a bogeyman. Green Lantern, on the other hand, would have approached the governments of Earth as a representative of Oa and be trying to shepherd Earth into the greater universe as potentially a part of Oa's protectorate. Wonder Woman would be doing the same for the Amazons, acting as an ambassador to the rest of the world, and she and GL would be the media darlings.

Hmmm, if I'm going to share my ideas for an ultimate DC Universe, I might as well as start here.

Let's start with Superman. Considering the modern world, an idealistic Superman would be hard to imagine, but not impossible. I would have him start out traveling across America, trying to find a place in the world with all of his superpowers and helping people along the way. He would keep his identity as a secret, causing many witnesses to dub the man who performed miracle feats as the Superman. His deeds attract the attention of a Daily Planet news reporter Lois Lane, who intends on covering this new phenomena. Superman does not have his iconic super suit until he fully learns about his Kryptonian origins. As for him debuting in public, I'm considering a smaller scale event from Man of Steel, where General Zod lands upon Earth for his sinister agenda.

Lex Luthor is the multibillionaire owner of Lex Corp, originally called Luthor Corporations before Lex decided to simplify it into something more catchy (and replace his father's legacy with his own). Luthor is fairly young and mostly spends his time working on inventions with his father's company and wealth. These inventions are the reason why Lex Corp became so successful and propelled Lex to become the new CEO after his father "retired" from his position. But Luthor is never satisfied. He wants to go above and beyond what normal people can do and became very invested in studying meta-humans, which he believes is the next logical step of humanity. His enmity with Superman comes from his inability to comprehend a being that is all-powerful yet be so humble and noble instead of corrupt as well as the fact that Luthor wants to control everything.

There are other characters I would like to talk about, but this is all I have right now.

[up] It would be entirely in character for Luthor to oppose Superman because he feels that, far from being altruistic, Superman must naturally be after the same kind of control over humanity that Luthor himself is after.
