You can always turn the forum gingerbread (located in your profile settings) off if you really hate the relationship tags.
Although that does get rid of the other things like avatars and signatures.

For what it's worth, I don't get any 'incomplete profile' messages.
◊ I may have actually set my relationship status at one time, so if the message really bothers you, one thing you could try is setting your status to something random, saving the changes, and then immediately going back in and resetting your status to 'not set'.
Unless you just don't like seeing anything in your profile that's blank or implies incompleteness. Then we can't help you there. The Relationship Statuses have been around for over two years now (they started as a Valentine's Day joke), they're not hurting much of anything, and the site admins have bigger fish to fry right now, so I don't think they're going anywhere soon.

Yeah, we won't remove a feature because some people don't want to use it. That's ridiculous.

All they do is tell me that your profile isn't complete until you do something cringeworthy and ridiculous.
