Well, you could have renamed an adult for her. One of her friends. Same with Lance.

Which is usually what we do but if you want her to be a kid that's your choice since you have the fort.

I had planned to play a bit this morning but I slept through till mid afternoon because I had to take allergy pills and it's probably going to continue sucking through the weekend unless we somehow get some rain. Would anyone mind if I took a few extra days for my turn, deadline Wed at the latest?

I have not an objection to this. Besides, who'd want me to reclaim my seat in the throne? Take thy time on the turn if ya must.

No. No, no, no. NES. We want you to take your turn on the throne. After a succession of overseers who fix and strengthen the Fortress first. The whole point to strength in this game is to test it through merciless challenges and the failures of us overseers. We just need to recover enough that you'll injure the fort without killing her outright.

Or to have them cruelly and brutally subverted. Like the fact that my improving the hospital may have doomed us all.

20th Obsidian

Nil Bercemosh, a child, has been possessed by a craftsdwarf spirit. The spirit found all it demanded but it was a cruel trick to make her haul a lump of pitchblende up several flights of stairs.

22nd Obsidian

Tuefel, the original expedition leader, came to me with a scroll and a statue. I know not the dark gods they warn of but if it's their influence at the root of our misfortune, we must do all we can to excise it.

I've found some notes and sketches Elle and Lance had been working on for the temple. I think this spot here has been stained too greatly with blood to build a holy site; looking at a map of the area I'm pondering moving construction to the other side of the river once we've fortified this stronghold. In the meantime, there is one shrine above the forbidden levels which I have ordered re-dedicated so anyone may worship there if they need to.

24th Granite

A couple of mothers have been missing children since the seal was laid. Damn...

25th Granite

The moon is full. The baracades hold. The noise is terrible.

26th Granite

The spirit has left Nil Bercemosh. He has created a buckler of crundle bones decorated in stone, wool, silk, engrave gold and engraved lapis*. Nil has been sent to bed for a nap.

27th Granite

The noise below has finally subsided.

6th Slate

In the middle of hewing the memorial slabs for the fallen I almost broke down. I hope no one noticed. The stench of death from below is rank.

9th Slate

The elves are finally leaving.

16th Slate

I've been informed that migrants are on their way. Poor fools. But we do need the extra hands. I've been trying to have the mess of temporary workshops and scattered stockpiles cleaned up as well as the mess in general.

18th Slate

We have enough marksdwarves to make up a full squad now but don't ask me anything about outfitting them. There's pig iron in the stores but no way to make steel. Mental note to look into leather supply.

23rd State

The howls are coming from below again but they seem fewer than the last moon.

25th Slate

The howls have ceased again.

10th Felsite

Damn, damn, damn, damn...my husband, Nist, found a child (Alath Ilushfikod) drained of blood. I was hoping the whole vampire thing was a rumor but that would be too much, wouldn't it?

Of course it'd be too much to ask. Armok cares not for trifles like temples. He demands BLOOD. Beyond that, if there are any wereminers, you should set up a mining pattern for them to get stone, set up a weremason, and do as much block building down there as you can between full moons. Then you can set the weres to the task of truly walling themselves into the hospital. Then you can reclaim the rest of the fort.

I'm not sure if it's a waste of my hospital or the best damn use ever, I'm proud of that thing for sure, just for being able to isolate the enemy. Though I'd be more proud if it could continue serving its original purpose.

Elle Since: Jan, 2001
#212: Jul 31st 2016 at 6:42:26 AM

No wereminers but I do have the weres that haven't yet killed themselves hauling the lose stone scattered about in the interest of cleanup and that may go toward walling-off.

In other OOC news, I realize we do indeed have a drawbridge entrance but I can't figure out if any of the levers are connected to it.

The lever in the dining hall. I know, I noted it. Not to mention that's my SOP. Lever in the dining hall is drawbridge up top. Lever in hospital is the well plug for refilling.

10th Felsite, Cont

The scroll Tuefel gave me mentions vampires. The surest way to identify them short of catching them in the act is that they never eat, drink or sleep. I've put out an order that everyone is to make a list of dwarves who they can vouch for having seen eat or drink.

11th Felsite

I've questioned the Sakzul Geshdudmol, a diagnoser who arrived with the last migrant group. She protests innocence and her neice, one of the rangers, has backed it. I mean to keep an eye on her just in case.

That leaves everyone else vouched for on the list except...oh no...

12 Felsite

It's rather convenient to be Mayor, isn't it? Private bedroom, private dining room, no one has to see you eat or sleep...

I confronted Meng and while he didn't come out and confess the look of abject shame I got from him made me feel very briefly almost sorry. I've ordered him confined to his room until further notice and that a lockable door be installed.

14th Felsite

Since the last Captian of the Guard is either rotting or cursed below and no one seems especially qualified, I have assumed the position myself. The wood stockpile on the military level is being ordered cleared out to be the site for a jail. Digging of military barracks has been ordered to relieve the bedding crunch a bit.

21st Felsite

It's that time of month again.

28th Felsite

The mason shops have attracted an unusual gang of my children's playmates around them. I think Zuthan knows I'm miserable...I know he misses his brother. I'm not sure if I'm thankful for the company or annoyed at the racket.

1st Hematite

Summer has arrived...not that the weather cares about that.

3rd Hematite

I have temporarily restricted the gathering of wood from outside so we may prioritize our stored supply. We have charcoal production going constantly at the moment and I'm thinking of adding yet another furnace.

We're also slowly culling our excess animal stock.

7th Hematite

"Bloody Meng", as people have taken to calling him, has apparently been busy covering his room with masterwork engravings. I guess it keeps him sane. The idea makes me uneasy but it would make some sense to put him to work in other rooms of the nobles quarters as a form of pennance until justice can be served.

It's beyond a doubt that he's guilty though. A number of the children in the room at the time have since come forward as witnesses to implicate him.

11th Hematite

I've gotten word that a human diplomat from Pesor Tedaz is arriving. I have no idea what they want but I hope it's not trouble.

12th Hematite

The charcoal pile is right there you imbicels...

14th Hematite

The Baron has concluded his business with the diplomat without incident.

In other news, the human caravan has arrived.

15th Hematite

In exchange for most of our gold crafts plus some stone and bone ones (minus scepters because the baron thinks we need them for some reason) we've cleaned the caravan out of their leather and cloth supply plus all the iron and bronze that's fit to melt down.

19th Hematite

Ilral Ubburimtar has been taken by a secretive mood, claimed a craftsdwarfs workshop, absconded with some gems right out from the jeweler's bench, rounded up gold, wood, bone and leather and set to work.

27th Hematite

What did he call this thing, a raz? Well it's a musical instrument. It's got all sorts of keys and strings and I have no idea how it works but it's carved out of raw gold and looks impressive. And now we know who to turn to for stone sculptures. I've told him to practice masonry too because always more masons.

2nd Malachite

Ok, now we actually have burned through the charcoal pile in spite of me having it being made constantly. The stock records say we should have more but damn if I can find it.

5th Malachite

A party of migrants have been sighted. We're so short-handed that I don't feel like feeling sorry for them right now.

9th Malachile

As of today, all the known vicims of the werecoatl attack have been burried or memorialized. I have dedicated the room as a memorial hall. If the engravers' supernatural sense for this thing is accurate, there's about 7 cursed dwarves unaccounted for.

11th Galena

In the midst of a period of merciful calm, I have given birth to my fourth child, a boy. I've named him Domas.

Progress report: The walls of the jail cells are finally going up though as I think about it we'll want to dig a special cell for Meng..I'll be formally convicting him once I have some time to borrow his old office. The stonework in the larger dining hall is just about finished and I've had gold tables installed at one end for nobles. A new, larger food stockpile has been dug at the same level as well as a dedicated wing of kitchens and stills. The quarry level has been set up with wood, ore and stone stockpiles. All the non-farming crafts have been relocated to the expanded workshop level and most of them can be contained with doors. The missing charcoal has been found and reallocated. The baron has been given Meng's old rooms for now and the rest of the apartments and offices we need are in progress. I've ordered a paved road in the entryway to cover the blood soaked into the earth.

Religious it's not but we are now mostly functioning again. Plans to be able to start reclaiming the lower wings are often in the back of my mind.

Outside of that time of the month (there's a joke in there somewhere, I'm sure of it) you could use the weres for labor down below. I seriously suggest making them lock themselves up in one of the other floors. Maybe the hospital, or maybe find somewhere that was less labor intensive to set up.

I've been trying to nudge them down to the unfinished bedroom wing (below the main bedrooms) so I can have them disassemble the stairs behind them so the main force can reclaim the hospital and bedrooms. The catch is two of the surviving weres are children.

That is a catch. I'd think a burrow would still work for them but it can be tricky. And I'm sure they'll break containment once a month until they're sealed in.

Trying to heal a loyalty cascade bug after finally having recovered almost fully from the werecoatls is a whole lot of 'Nope!". I have my journal notes so it shouldn't take as long to get back to where I was.

Event that will probably be lost to alternate history: the outpost liason turned out to be infected on his fall visit. It only killed one and infected two though and I had it managed until I triggered the bug.

I made my backup in the end of summer and went through to the end of fall. A lot of the time was planing new stuff.

What kind of infection did he have? Chances are good he'll still be infected this next time too, so have some kind of isolation trap ready for him.
