I'm seeing this trope used for examples where a hero doesn't hesitate to kill a villain, even if it just happens once. It's not necessarily a trade-mark personality trait, and the villains the hero kills may not even be set up as their nemesis counter-part, it could just happen once.

Looking at the description, I can see it mentions heroes and villains in the first sentence but most of the trope description seems villain-focussed, so is the laconic. I looked at the original YKTTW, and it talks only about villains, and those moments when the hero is caught by surprise when the villain goes straight to trying to kill their opponent instead of gloating or ranting long enough to give the hero time to think of a solution. It appears the sentence about the Hero Ball reference was added at a later date and may not be part of the original trope description.

Is this trope just for villains, and does it require an establish personality trait or can it just be a one-off event? Or is there some trope decay at work?

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.
