Pretty sure if you don't have a torch you can use literally any wooden weapon

...Oh yeah.

Ok. I'll just do that. I just wanted to be careful with my wooden weapons in case thunder came up.

Well, I did it. it was rough, and I had to do some Save Scumming, but I eventually lit enough torches to make it and lit the fire at the lab.

...I can't make too many things yet however. I don't have enough Ancient Cores of any type, but now I can finally get to it.

Next up, more Koroks, and probably some Guardians while I'm at it.

By the way, what's the most effective method for kill those random wolves that sometimes show up? The ones that circle around you?

Multishot bow. Or just run; they won't chase you.

Oh, Hylia, Ancient Cores. Those things are a bugger to get. They're randomly dropped by Guardian Stalkers (spider robots), Guardian Skywatchers (flying robots), and Guardian Scout I Vs (Major Test of Strength), but the drop rate is frustratingly low.

Torches at the cooking pots, not the furnaces. No one said the latter, AFAIK.

Just like there wasn't one at the furnace for the Hateno lab.

Heh. I did notice a Torch right in the Akkala lab after I'd already done the entire thing. I won't lie, that was really annoying.

But it doesn't really matter now to be frank. I made it, so it's not an issue.

I recently got three Ancient Cores from one Guardian. I honestly couldn't believe it.

I got lucky and got a third Ancient Core from a guardian while trying to find the South Akala stable...where the hell is that place anyway? I was following a path (via a sign) but after a while I had no clue where to go There weren't any more signs to guide me either.

[up][up] Try the reaction when you get two giant cores (which are even more rare than the smaller kind) from one kill. surprised

[up] I forget, have you been to the Akkala tower? If so, the South stables are northwest(ish) from there. Alternately, from Tarrey Town just take the western road that goes just north of the TT island, and edges around the northern part of the Torin Wetland you can see to the west of TT.

I have not been to Akala Tower yet.

As I recall, it's a demonic place full of flying Guardians.

Though I do have Guardian weapons now, even a few arrows (well, 4 arrows, which I ain't so much as touching yet, but still).

Though I do see it from a distance, so maybe I'll give it a shot. I do got some heart increasing stuff, and plenty of stuff for refilling my stamina too.

It's best to avoid the flying guardians until you have a ton of Ancient Arrows. A Lynel bow and some bomb arrows also work, but you need altitude and max stamina.

It's very possible to just avoid all the flying Guardians via rock climbing and just deal with the more minor stuff at the base of the Akala tower. Unless I'm getting my regions confused.

Hmm. then I guess I just need to get some more hearts and stamina (I can get an extra stamina wheel at the Zora Domain in or I think I have a meal for it, and then give it a shot). It would be nice to have a proper map of the place.

Do it first.

I suspect that the difficulty of each boss scales in proportion of how many D Bs have already been conquered.

But on something you can actually do, see if you can find the Gerudo Secret Club in town. They sell armour with a rather handy stat attached to it. If you've found 3 Fairy Fountains, give them two upgrades as well, and that armour will be extremely handy.

Thunderblight is the hardest fight by far

[up]This. I did Fireblight last, and that fight was made unintentionally harder by me not going in with the full fireproof armor set. All of the fireproof potions I had in my inventory ran out during the fight too, and as a result I had to power through purely via continually consuming health potions to replace the constant drain on my HP.

And yet, I found it to be the easiest fight; Fireblight doesn't have any particularly difficult attacks or defenses to overcome aside from his movements.

...I did it. Scaled Akala Tower. Also found South Akala stable.

Woo! Feeling good!

I can't fight the sky guardians at all though. I couldn't even target it to reflect it's laser when I first encountered one. I was probably just doing it wrong.

Honestly, the issue was the black goo around at the foot of the tower. After not being able to find a way around it, I decided to just climb on it and over the to the good parts. It took me a while to realize I was high enough for the could to affect me (I was wondering why I was losing health when I clearly wasn't in the goo, but then I checked my status screen to fix my health and saw him shivering. Gave him some cold resisting food and fixed it right up.

So yeah. I did it. I also got a third core and finally upgraded to Stasis +...not really that great. I guess it's benefits comes more from causing Bokoblins to fall off their horses. Now I can start killing guardians for the sake of getting more cores as well, and also start searching for Korok seeds (I said I was gonna do that, so time to get back to it) again. Also got another 4th Shrine and upgraded my head. I think I'm at about 9 hearts now.

I'm considering heading up to the Goron's home, not to necessarily start, but more just to get there and then come back to it later.

All in all, I feel good.

I'm 90% sure there's a difficulty scaling. I mean, Thunderblight is always rough, but I think it picks up new attacks the longer you wait before fighting it, because an LP I watched tackled it first or second, but I tackled it third, and I had to deal with a Shield Bash attack late in the fight.

Regarding the Akkala tower, if you've already done it I guess this isn't of much help, but there's a narrow metal plate you can use to bypass the goo around the base of the tower. You have to look for the eye in the inner part of the castle and kill that to get the metal plate to drop.

(I didn't find that out until later, and just tanked it with a bunch of heart foods. tongue )

Didn't know that. See, if I'd been playing more linearly, I'd have known about that little detail.

Aw well. Small price to pay for being able to go anywhere and do anything as I want, when I want.

First time around, I saw a small piece of ruin that I could climb to get around the goo (if only barely) and glide onto the tower from there.

That's the beautiful thing about this game; it's rare that there's only one way to perform any given task, giving lots of room for people to do things differently and have their own stories.

Stasis + is very useful when combined with a Spear, and something to freeze them with.

Hit them with Stasis, hit them with a spear, aim while they are in their hurt animation and them freeze. Hit them again with something else, and then aim with Stasis again while they are getting up.

Incredibly useful against regular enemies and combat challenges. Not real sure about lynels though.

Oh, yeah, the pools of malice all around the Akkala tower. In my experience, that was the hardest tower, since it required actual skill to get to (it didn't help in my case that there were black bokoblins spawning at its base, and I tried scaling it when I had 6 or 7 hearts). I remember that you could clear it with roughly 1 3/5 stamina wheels if the weather was not rainy, you were careful where you climbed, and you were very precise about where you glided to near the tower (to avoid malice/enemies). If you can climb that tower, the only difficulty you will have with future towers are the ones that are so tall that you need tons of stamina to climb.
