The year is 2016. It has been over a decade since the Fifth Holy Grail War. It has been four days since the last grail war.

In the aftermath of the Fifth Grail War, in light of the various copycat attempts to replicate the grail system by amateur, outcast, or crazed mages, a joint Church-Clocktower taskforce was formed with the goal of tracking down and terminating renegade grail wars before they can do serious damage. With the Mage's Association providing support and the Church assigning several executors to the task, several teams now patrol the globe.

This is the story of one such team.

SO hello there, you're probably going to skip reading most of this so just know that it's a Fate/Stay Night RP and, despite the name, has almost nothing to do with Grand Order, instead being mainly based off of the VN and prequel. The basic gist of it is that you are servants summoned with the purpose of not fighting in a grail war, but rather with the purpose of stopping illegal grail wars from reaching completion. Instead of a master, you all share a summoning tether that will act as your headquarters.

Much like XCOM, you will be presented missions that you must complete across the globe, where you set up your temporary base of operations until you can search for and destroy your targets. You have resources in the background that you must decide how to utilize, such as having Executors scout out questionable areas. You can assign them to create regions with sound and visual concealment from prying eyes, allowing you to lure enemies into a trap there so that you may fight without fear of being seen by an entire city's population. You may have the opportunity to recruit powerful servant allies and take them with you into future battles, and you also have the potential to lose those allies if you aren't careful. There is also the rare potential to acquire epic loot - and if you try to bum rush everything you'll probably never see it.

A few things to note about the game, plus some rules:

  • There are eight classes to choose from, as you can be the seven main classes from the VN, or Shielder. Shielder's class skills are Guardian Knight and Magic Resistance.
    • No canon characters allowed. Seriously dudes. Let's be creative here. You can make a servant based on the same characters from history and myth used in the VN/Anime/Games/etc. so long as they're products of your own imagination and you make up your own Noble Phantasm effects instead of copying the ones from the wiki (especially since most of the NPs in the VN are a pain in the ass to deal with in an RP setting). You can use historical, mythological, even classical literature characters, and can take some liberties with your character, maybe embellishing a bit of their story, or you can genderbend them, or whatever you want. But for a rough cutoff period, let's say try to go with someone who died before around 1900.
      • Just in case it wasn't clear, you can use canon skills. In fact, most of your skills will probably wind up being canon.
    • Working together, learning about your enemies, and managing your resources are a major considerations in the game, it's not just about trying to see who has the most powerful NP or arbitrarily best sword skill. You may find a situation where you have to blend in at a Hot Topic in Los Angeles, or hunt down a mage in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, or have to fight an army of ghosts in an abandoned bunker in Siberia, so a diverse cast will be good.
  • As a rule of thumb, try not to have any single NP or skill you come up with have a crapload of things it can do. A Noble Phantasm that can do a dozen things will probably not be accepted. Any NP that is supposed to be as powerful as some of the craziest canon NPs (Gate of Babylon, Ionioi Hetairoi, Unlimited Blade Works, God Hand, etc) is also probably not going to be accepted. If your NP needs more than a hundred words to describe it, there's probably something up.

  • Star Rank: Just pick a rank, 1 through 5. While this isn't actually using FGO's system, I like the idea of having star rankings that you try to classify your servant as fitting a certain rank. This also will be helpful in deciding what sort of enemy encounters might be too easy or too hard to deal with. So if you all wind up being five-stars and try and stretch the capabilities and effects of your skills and Noble Phantasms to the extreme end of the spectrum, you're going to be facing monstrously powerful NPCs and you will be in for some real trouble.

Alright, here goes nothing:

  • Name: Koschei the Deathless (Source 1, source 2)
  • Summoning Age: 18 (though he will age rapidly into an old man if his NP is taken from him)
  • Sex: Male
  • Class: Caster
  • Appearance: [1]
  • Personality Blurb: Having achieved immortality and lived for hundreds of years, Koschei has developed incredibly hedonistic tendencies in order to combat his boredom. He is completely restless and always wants something to do, even if that something is cruel in nature. He has taken a liking to performing extremely crazy feats for the hell of it - like riding his horse through the mountains of Russia while completely naked - and he has developed a penchant for spiriting away and seducing maidens. However, he is also extremely protective of the egg containing his soul, and will guard it beyond anything else. As a Heroic Spirit of the Earth attribute, he is a completely fictional entity, and his immortality is something beyond the scope of vampirism or True Magic - therefore, he dislikes the notion that his immortality is associated with either of these.
  • Star Rank: 4*
  • Parameters:
    • Strength: D+
    • Endurance: EX
    • Agility: B
    • Magical Energy: A+
    • Luck: C
  • Class Skill(s):
    • Item Construction: A
    • Territory Creation: B
  • Personal Skill(s):
    • Shapeshift: B (Like most other Servants, Koschei was summoned from the prime of his life. Unlike most other Servants, the prime of his life was the age of several hundred years old, when he reached the peak of his magecraft. Therefore, Koschei uses this skill in order to maintain a handsome and youthful appearance, and if it is disabled he will revert to the emaciated old man that he truly is. He can also use this to turn into a monstrous appearance, though this does not alter his parameters significantly.)
    • Magecraft: A+ (Koschei is a savant at magecraft, having learned so much within his long lifetime. In particular, he has a natural affinity for wind magecraft, having been known to cloak himself in a whirlwind tornado when spiriting away women, and he is capable of potent Reinforcement spells as well as Spatial Transporation, having used both to escape imprisonment from the warrior woman Marya Morevna. Most notably, he created a spell that allowed him to bind his soul into an inanimate object - an impossibility by the standards of Magi today.)
    • Alluring Nightingale: C (The crystallization of the many tales of his seduction of women, this skill allows him to allure the opposite gender with his voice. While not a full charm skill, it can be resisted in the same way. This skill will be lost if his Shapeshift skill is deactivated.)
    • Riding: A (Koschei was infamous for his rides throughout the mountains of Russia. He is compatible with the Rider class at this rank.)
  • Noble Phantasm(s):
    • Name: Ruka D’yavola
    • Title: The Needle of Immortality
    • Type: Anti-Unit (Self)
    • Rank: A++
    • Effect: The needle to which Koschei’s spiritual core is bound, contained within an egg. As long as the egg is intact, Koschei’s Material Body is indestructible and will regenerate from any form of damage it sustains, something reflected by his EX-rank endurance. However, if the egg falls into the possession of another or is separated from him by the distance of one kilometer, Koschei’s magecraft and Shapeshift skill will be lost to him, and if the egg is destroyed, the needle will also be destroyed, causing him to instantly die. For security purposes, he has the egg in the possession of a duck familiar, which is carried by a hare familiar, which is itself locked in a small golden chest kept on him at all times. If someone manages to open the chest, they will have to chase the familiars before they can claim the egg. The original tale had Koschei able to bury the chest without losing his magecraft, but his incarnation as a Servant has caused him to lose that ability for some reason.

edit: Here's my Servant Mk. 2

  • Name: Maud
  • Summoning Age: 16
  • Sex: Female
  • Class: Rider
  • Appearance: The Friend of Dragons
  • Personality Blurb: Maud is a rather nice young girl who is friendly and polite to just about anyone she meets. Maud is also quite a stubborn, once she has decided she wants something she will see to it even going behind the backs of others, making a mutual understanding with her impossible. She absolutely adores dragons, especially her own, and enjoys discussing them with others. Because of this like of dragons however she has an absolute, borderline irrational hatred for dragon slayers, despising them for killing such magnificent creatures. Her insanity makes her see the dragons as victims or merely misunderstood, despite the reality that they were just rampaging monsters, and that their killers and those who feared them were more evil than the dragons themselves.
  • Star Rank: 3★
  • Parameters:
    • Strength: E
    • Endurance: E
    • Agility: D
    • Magical Energy: C
    • Luck: D
  • Class Skill(s):
    • Magic Resistance - E: Grants protection against magical effects. Differently from the Resistance effect that merely rejects Magical Energy, this ability cancels the spells altogether. Cannot cancel spells, but magic damage is reduced somewhat.
    • Riding - A++: The expertise to ride animals and vehicles. Draconic Creatures are capable to be used as mounts.
  • Personal Skill(s):
    • Friend to Dragons - B: A skill that measures one's capacity to befriend dragons, decreasing the chances for dragons and reptiles to be hostile to the owner of this skill. When interacting with Servants with the Dragon Trait this unique Skill displays a fascination magic-like effect, but one can abate it so long there is a will to resist.
    • Mental Pollution - A: Makes it highly possible to shut out any mental interference Thaumaturgy, due to possessing a distorted mentality. However, at the same time it becomes impossible to come to an understanding with individuals that do not possess an equivalent rank of mental pollution.
    • Powerless Shell - D: A skill that make the user difficult to perceive as a Servant, declining both their parameters and skills.
  • Noble Phantasm(s):
    • Garstone's Lance - The Mordiford Dragonslayer's Weapon (Anti-Unit, D): The weapon that was used to slay the Mordiford Wyvern. Visually it is a normal yet high quality lance, but due to the legend in which it was used to slay a dragon, Garstone's Lance deals additional damage to Heroic Spirits who have a "dragon" attribute. Maud never used the weapon in life, but due to the connection it has to her legend she ended up having it as her Noble Phantasm.
    • The Mordiford Wyvern - Friend to a Lonely Girl (Anti-Team, A+): The dragon that terrorized the village of Mordiford and was befriended by Maud. It is a monstrous beast worthy of legend, being the height of a large SUV from its head to its feet, with its might wings it is capable of flight and is able to breath fire as its primary attack. Due to their bond with one another Maud is able to summon it as her mount under the Rider class. However, Maud's control over the beast is rather finicky, making it more of a summoned minion than a normal mount of someone of the Rider class. It is an incredibly powerful creature that is capable of taking on Servants on its own without instructions from Maud, as such it will often be on the frontlines in Maud's place as she lacks the proper combative abilities to properly challenge a Servant on her own.

  • Name: Tomoe Gozen
  • Summoning Age: 20
  • Sex: Female
  • Class: Saber
  • Appearance: East Side biptces
  • Personality Blurb: Tomoe is a soldier and a fighter first and foremost. Loyal to her allies but also incredibly strong willed. She was often the first ride out into battle, and has a "get shit done" mindset. In other words she'd rather be the one fixing a problem than sitting around and waiting for a solution to just pop up. That's not to say she can't truly relax when its time. She often takes a playful teasing tomboyish attitude towards her allies and isn't afraid to down a bottle of Sake or two. In short she's a rough gal who fights hard, plays hard, and never backs down.
  • Star Rank 4★
  • Parameters:
    • Strength: B++
    • Endurance: A+
    • Agility: B++
    • Magical Energy: C
    • Luck: C
  • Class Skills:
    • Magic Resistance: C
    • Riding: A+
  • Personal Skills:
    • Batoru no Junbi (Battle Preparation) A: Tomoe was always the first one to ride into battle, and thus had to be prepared. She was often given a heavy suit of armor, a large sword, and bow. This has a passive effect of raising her endurance rank, and a rather unique secondary effect. As she often fought with both a sword and a bow this skill allows her to blur the line between the Saber and Archer classes allowing her to manifest a bow for projectile attacks.
    • Bushido (Way of the Samurai) A: As a samurai Tomoe subscribes to the Bushido code, and has worked tirelessly to hone her skills in battle giving her a boost to STR and AGI. They are boosted further should she enter a one-on-one Duel with an opponent.
    • Shihai no Jurui (Domination of Beasts) A: Tomoe was said to be able to ride even unbroken horses with great skill.
  • Noble Phantasm
    • Taikō-shin (Facing God) (Anti-Unit:C~A+): While Tomoe had never truly slayed a god during her life she was ingrained into the human subconscious as someone who was "Ready to face a god or a demon". Thus the power of her attacks is increased proportional to the amount of her enemies Divine of Demonic attributes should they have any. This is signified by a purple wispy aura surrounding her sword or her bow.

Name:[[ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odysseus Odysseus]]

Summoning Age: 40

Sex: Male

Class: Archer

Appearance: http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/dynastywarriors/images/7/7f/Odysseus.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20100629105844

Personality Blurb: As a soldier he is disciplined and vigilant most of the time, but tends to act as a sarcastic slacker most of the time, even in dire situations, but no detail escapes his sharp eyes. Weary of gods and just wants some peace in life, but determined to win this last battle to accomplish his dream, and can be quite ruthless against his enemies, but protects those he cares about fiercely, and is quite wise on many matters, however, has a big pride, and so can fall on a few dumb mistakes. Essentially, he goes from father to warrior, to from fool to genius in the blink of an eye.

Star Rank: 4

Parameters:

Strength: B+

Endurance: C+

Agility: A

Magical Energy: D

Luck: D-

Class Skill(s): Independant Action: C

Magical Resistance: C

Personal Skill(s): Military Tactics: B+ The cunning explorer himself is able to form effective plans and read those of his enemies. Bonus if it's an infiltration plan.

Affection of the Goddess: C. Due to his wits, he was favoured by Athena herself, goddess of wisdom and strategic warfare, so he gets a rank up on strength and endurance on difficult situations.

Curse of the Sea: C. As he incurred in the wrath of Poseidon, the seas themselves turned against him, and suffers a rank down on Luck any time he fights over large bodies of water.

Charisma: B. He IS a king, after all.

Noble Phantasm(s):

Telemachus: Proof of Kingship: Rank B, anti unit. The bow only he could wield, and proof of his identity. The arrows he shoots from great distances turn into mana axes as they hit their targets, and he can break the arrows for more power.

Poisoned Arrows of Herakles: An Old Friend's Memento

Rank A, Anti Unit. At some point, he had to use Herakles' arrows, which had the Hydra's poison in them. If it hits, it's a Luck check, depending on the result, it may be a One hit kill (and it always is on normal humans), or as it is not originally his, a rank down in Strength, Agility and Endurance causing horrible pain.

Considered using something based on the Trojan Horse or the Cyclops defeat, but I tought it was too... Assassin like. [up][up] Man, El Quijote de la Mancha as a Servant, that'll be silly, wonder if it'll be dangerous too.

Blueace, that's kind of the point. I'm afraid that I also can't match up to the wit of the legendary Miguel de Cervantes in portraying such a grand character.

There will be a difference between the super idealistic Don Quixote in his life that was portrayed in classical literature and the wiser Don Quixote in his death which I would want to show here. Maybe in the near future when I've finished Don Quixote, (which is 1000 pages long) and a new fate roleplay comes along I'll play as Don Quixote.

  • Koschei the Deathless: Accepterooni.

  • Arsène Lupin: I can't accept a character whose noble phantasm is to steal another one. In addition to that, you didn't pay attention to the cutoff date I stated.

  • Tomoe Gozen: Accepted, assuming I'm interpreting it correctly that the + to her Endurance is applied while wearing her armor, the first + to her Strength and Agility are constant, and the second + to her Strength and Agility are applied during duels.

  • Odysseus: Most of him looks good, except you'll need to rework his two A-rank Noble Phantasms. Something that will outright kill someone upon contact isn't acceptable. To use an example from the VN, even some of the most extreme stuff, like Gae Bulg, wasn't worded as being able to "always kill its opponent" but rather its effect that it always hit the heart was something that left room for interpretation, and didn't necessarily imply a one-hit-kill. Additionally, I'm not a fan of having an arbitrarily-determined limited number of uses on an NP, since people think that makes it okay to overpower their effects in exchange. But also because it would make someone hesitant to "waste" one of their limited uses, and this winds up being like a game of Skyrim where you're hoarding 600 potions because you're too scared to waste it. Rework both of those skills to be something balanced to the character without using that ammo mechanic.

Most of the grail wars you will have to shut down will utilize the traditional master/slave command seal relationship as established in the VN (although it's possible that some of these wars will have serious exceptions). So taking out the master in that case would still be a viable strategy, although whether that's achievable depends on the particular master and servant in question, since most servants will generally try to protect their master unless they've somehow concocted a backup plan.

  • Maud: Much better, but still needs a few things. She's missing a rank in her Magic Resistance class skill, I'd prefer it if you didn't give her high-ranking versions of several other class skills, as it is now this seems to be firmly in 5-star territory, and this dragon has to change. If it's supposed to be hard to control, who decides if it does what it's ordered to? Me? I really don't want to have control over a player character when I'm already running the enemies. And if you're determining when it does or doesn't obey her, then it's not actually something that you can't control. You can just make it being finicky a sort of flavor thing instead of a requirement. And just in general, I really don't like having PVP in this, especially if it's in the middle of what's already a fight against people who want to kill you, so a dragon that's a liability to just up and start attacking its allies is really just going to be a hindrance to the other players.

Okay, changed Mad Enhancement to Mental Pollution, gave her Magic Resistance, removed the part of the description about the dragon attacking others, and wrote it so her control is more finicky than difficult for flavor.

The Original holder of the Invisibility Ring.

  • Name: Gyges of Lydia
  • Summoning Age: 15
  • Sex: Male
  • Class: Assassin
  • Appearance: Most Popular Assassin Faceclaim 2009
  • Personality Blurb: Take one cusp of puberty, add one ounce of poor impulse control, a toil of hard labor, and stirs gently. Gently sprinkles golden dust of feudalism governance and boils with resentful jealousy and ambition. Let it seethe. Serves on a golden ring of invisibility.
  • Star Rank: 4★

  • Parameters:
    • Strength: C
    • Endurance: E
    • Agility: B
    • Magical Energy: C
    • Luck: B

  • Class Skill(s):
    • Presence Concealment (X): This skill is subsumed into and represented by the Assassin’s noble phantasm.

  • Personal Skill(s):
    • Critical Strike (B+): At this rank, Assassin’s attack deal increased damage should he succeed on a Luck-check. Further, his attacks gain the ‘’Armor-piercing’’ attribute if the opponent has not yet detected Assassin. This skill is representative of Assassin’s opportunistic maneuver, killing the King and seducing the Queen in one fell stroke after he discovers the ring of invisibility.

    • Disengage (A): Assassin possesses the ability to remove himself from an unfavorable situation with near-perfect success rate. At this rank, Assassin can only be cornered if there’s a flat 0% chance of escape for him, and the opponent must succeed a Luck-check.

  • Noble Phantasm(s):
    • Ring of Gyges
    • Type: Anti-Unit (Anti-Concept)
    • Rank: A-
    • Effect: Passive effects include allowing Assassin to become invisible and functionally unperceivable, negating the effects of Instinct and Eyes of the Mind, and augmenting Assassin’s initiative roll. This effect is sealed once preparation for attack is complete, until he next manages to succesfully eludes from his opponent's senses. Upon invocation of the true name, however, the ring shows it true power, manipulating casuality in a similar manner to that of a certain red spear or dagger. A powerful concept that coalesces both in the heart of morality and idle imaginations – what would one do if one have absolute reprieve from consequences. In effect, all negative actions against Assassin are made to happen in the future, 20 turns later. In other words, even if a cause (charging a certain sword-beam) have been performed and the prana needed expended, the effect (beamu) would not happen until 20 turns later, if and only if Assassin’s opponents can still fulfill the criteria of activation of whatever effects desired- the prana expended is not refunded. Against Lawful or Good opponents, the effect duration is halved, cumulatively. Actions must originate from the wilful intent of a sentient being.

[up][up] Added a description of the dragon to the NP, as well as lowered the rank of Powerless Shell. Though I have to disagree on the latter given that the reason she has the skill at such a high rank was because she is a totally normal person. And it does essentially give Presence Concealment, regardless. Plus Jekyll has it as a Berserker with an A rank in it.

  • Maud: Accepted.

  • Gyges: I don't like having everything for a character tethered to a luck check, especially if a luck check just winds up being the difference between "do nothing" and "win". Also drop the "0%" bit from Disengage. And as for the Noble Phantasm, I have no idea what you actually want it to do, so you'll need to reword it. Being able to have any and all attacks against him not even manifest until a long period of time later is definitely a no-go. Something more along the lines of him not being affected by an attack until later, and only if the conditions are still there, would be more acceptable. Also this is a forum RP, not a tabletop game, so having effects tethered to finite measurements of time aren't really doable. Best solution would be to just make it a generic "later", with perhaps lower-rank effects being deferred longer, and higher-rank ones manifesting sooner.
