AW had a couple real ones like the AK-12. IW has a couple real ones but almost all of them as "classic" weapons to be unlocked as a prestige bonus.

A great many are still based on real firearms though.

It's been out for a while and no posts on it. That's kinda sad, it's honestly my favorite game in the series now.

Meh. I was disappointed that the space dogfighting did that annoying on-rails gimmick that Ace Combat: Assault Horizon did. But then again this is COD, and they rarely trust the player with any actual freedom and thought that BLOPS gave too much during it's campaign, so...

Switch to Specialist difficulty, the rails dogfighting thing goes away. You also gotta pop flares one by one.

Honestly Specialist is just amazing, I love it.

Its pretty good, but man the multiplayer balance keeps biting me every time I think I've got a setup I like. All my favorite weapon classes/styles are either no good to begin with or keep getting nerfed. First it was shotguns being lousy, then snipers got hit way too hard after the beta, and now akimbo handguns have been hit with the nerf stick. Feels like the game caters too heavily to bland assault rifles, especially that new tactical TDM mode.

Campaign was great though. Zombies is pretty good, though I can't seem to get past the Seti-Com step in the main quest.

Sniper are in a good spot, you just gotta use them differently than other games. The akimbo pistols thing is a real bummer though, I just got the Cartel version of the Kendal .44s and was excited to get them all akimbo and full autoed up.

Still haven't played it, but I probably will when I get back to university, since I missed the game's free weekend.

[up][up]

I just can't agree with that sentiment. Snipers are statistically worse in so many ways here than they've been in almost every previous Call of Duty, with unique weaknesses like the scope glare and generally poor sound awareness for things like footsteps and boosts. On top of that, there are very few maps with big enough spaces for snipers to work in their own element. Usually you're stuck in one or two easily-flankable posts. Terminal—a Modern Warfare 2 map, of course—is the only one with long enough sight lines in enough spaces for the snipers to consistently perform well.

And yeah, I was using that exact setup last night for the pistols (finished getting diamond there). I had to play really hard with the movement to come out on top. The hip spread is so wide now, even with laser sights. There were several times where I would empty the magazines on both pistols at 10ft and not get so much as a hitmarker. The akimbo nerf was only really necessary for the Hornet and (on PC only) the Kendall 44. Instead they did a global nerf to all akimbo weapons, widening the hip spread considerably while also weakening range. On top of that, the Hornet and Kendall 44 both got special hip spread nerfs, even to their non-akimbo versions.

And to think that tighter hip spread used one of the only worthwhile advantages the Kendall 44 had over the EMC (which has a 3 shot kill range to the body, unlike the Kendall). I'd like a hit of whatever InfinityWard was smoking when they thought out these balance changes.

I really love these kinds of trailers more honestly. The devs talking about the maps and stuff rather than just a music montage of gameplay.

I like the look of them all.

Between the complaints from the fanbase and the sales not reaching the same level that BLOPS 3 did, Activision is looking to "head back to it's roots" for the franchise with the next installment.

I'm not happy with that news, I actually liked the new direction that Infinite Warfare was taking, especially their campaign. Then again, the COD fanbase is arguably one of the dumbest out there; I mean, just how the heck did people assume that an HD remake of a title WHOSE SERVERS ARE STILL RUNNING AND LACKS ANY PREMIUM DLC UNLOCKABLES would be a worthwhile purchase?!

Two months without a post. That makes me sad. This is definitely my favorite Co D in a long time.

The DLC maps are all great too by the way. I've been hoarding keys waiting for the quartermaster to update.

Have you seen the Xbox One's backwards compatibility list? Call of Duty games all had the most votes when it first came out, along with Skyrim. Thankfully now that those all have new versions other games can see the spotlight.

I'm kind of annoyed they keep making games with cliffhanger endings and then never following up on them.

Ghosts Advanced Warfare

Now Infinite Warfare.

Infinite Warfare's ending was definitely abrupt, but I don't think you can call it a cliffhanger. There was no denouement- in part because the story is so shallow that there is nothing to denouement- but you see Reyes' name on the wall and Salter saluting it. You know what happens in the end, it's pretty unequivocal.

Yes, but the SDF is still out there and likely more than capable of continuing the war. The only thing that'll stop them is a full-scale invasion of Mars itself, which would make a full game all on its own like Killzone 2. Unfortunately Infinity Ward is slipping when it comes to making COD games people actually like and that Activision thinks are worthy of a sequel.

Their leader is dead, their chain of command is dead, their commanders and aces are dead, their primary shipyard is destroyed, the Olympus Mons went kablooie.

We did a hell of a lot of damage.

[down]I dunno if I'd say finished but they aren't gonna shrug this off.

[up][up] In the final mission of Infinite Warfare you hijack the SDF's flagship- the Olympus Mons- fuck up their main fleet with said flagship, blow up the flagship with their supreme leader's corpse still on it, then destroy their space elevator and orbital dockyards that they could use to construct new ships. I got the impression that this meant the SDF was effectively finished as a military power.

[up] Right. You know, part of me can't help but think how good these games could be if they weren't tied to the concept of Call of Duty as an abstract idea within the field of game design. If you were to describe the concept of the campaign of Infinite Warfare to me without making reference to the fact that it was a Call of Duty game, I'd be all over that shit.

"You are the captain of Earth's last warship, and you go around the star system commanding your handful of forces in strategic guerilla strikes against high-value enemy targets in a dynamic campaign."

Fucking awesome. What's it called?

"Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare."

Fuck! It's just going to be a chain of linear missions with big, dumb set-pieces and a different gimmick for every mission. Goddamnit, this could have been something exciting.

[up]It's telling enough that the description could also work well with the Mass Effect series.

Mass Effect kind of fits, but the game I was thinking of was House of the Dying Sun. A real gem in the rough.

I guess design conventions can ruin any good idea.

Oh, absolutely! Marauder Interactive's debut and they knocked it out of the park. Only wish it was longer and more fully-featured. As it is, it's a criminally under-recognized short-but-sweet flight sim with the best feeling combat and Newtonian flight model I have ever played.

Imagine if House of the Dying Sun had Call of Duty's budget behind it. Imagine of all of those pointless Michael Bay-esque Jackal segments had been their own separate missions instead of the usual set-piece mandated by the Co D formula.

[up]Part of me's wondering that it might be a good idea for the Mass Effect franchise, of all things, to adopt House of the Dying Sun's gameplay. Because seriously, think about it: what's the one thing that the ME games have been missing all this time, despite their genre? Space combat!

Imagine if ME 3 had essentially copy-pasted all of HOTDS' entire campaign, but put a Mass Effect skin, in addition to all of the ground missions? It'd be a perfect fit: short hit-and-run missions against vital targets during the Reaper War, with Shepard only having a small window of time to succeed before his fighter group gets over-matched by the Reaper capital ships, or possibly Harbinger himself. The final mission to re-take Earth and the Crucible could possibly have you taking over one of your other squadmates/pilots as they make a last-ditch attempt to fight off Harbinger in a proper space battle, and end the same way HOTDS campaign does: a final stand until the last fighter falls.

My god, that'd be freakin sweet.

I can't wait for it to finish downloading.
