Hi!

I'm highly intimidated, posting here, as I've lurked but never jumped in. That said, I'm a long-time tabletop RPG player (25 years or so; I'm 37) with an urge to play something easier, focused on story, DM-free, and system lite to help all my grown friends who've never gamed into the hobby. Other design goals include player collaboration (not competition) and incentivizing a good STORY, not the "win" condition; one thing I set as a goal was that players would actively choose to kill their own characters when it improved the narrative.

Genre: Zombie Apocalypse is the first version of the game; I'm currently working on Super-Heroic, which will be the second deck. The cards are tropes; you and others take turns using them to build stories plotted out on mats - one for the plot/Script of the movie, and another for each player's Character (as each has their own narrative arc to attempt). Perform well to gain Applause; spend it to interject into other players' turns with an "And!" or "But!" and take control of the narrative. The goal is to complete the Script and the Character's Story in one turn, then have an Awards Show where you reward the Action Hero/ine, Drama King/Queen, and Comic Relief at the table.

I've tried to steer clear of too much reading, here, to avoid any overlap with existing tropes (I've been trying to rediscover the wheel by myself, in other words). We've been playtesting for a year at local cons and it's working well. I'm hoping to get some blind playtest feedback from anyone with the patience and interest needed to print the pdf and get a group at a table; if that's you (or if you have some other insight, advice, vitriol, or what have you to offer!), let me know and I'll send a copy over.

If you're curious, the site is genrecardgame.com.

Cheers!
