Hello, all. I've noticed that there doesn't seem to be a topic for this anime. It's the only anime that I've ever watched and enjoyed (not sure if Dragon Ball counts, I guess it does). I don't consider myself an anime fan but I saw this on Netflix one day and the descriptions of the episodes made me curious, in a perverted way. I'll admit that's why I clicked on it to begin with but then I started watching it and it's really funny! The characters are good, and its really fast paced and there's constant jokes.

Although the show's plot is about the main character Yamada wanting to find 100 sex partners, it's really a romantic comedy with Yamada just having a perverted mind. The comedy and story line always comes first, unlike other anime's of this genre that this one is supposed to be associated with. The music is really good too! I've actually grown fond of the intro and outro themes, and the in-show music adds to its mood. Also I just want to note that the only way to watch this show was in Japanese with the subs; the English voice over was horrible and completely ruined the atmosphere of the show in my opinion.

After watching every episode I was extremely disappointed that there is only one season. Then I discovered that there was a manga and promptly read all of it, which was great. It was pretty much as good as the anime, although I'd still do anything to see the anime pick up where it left off and continue the manga's story. I'm sure the chances of the anime continuing are slim to none by now, but a man can dream...

Anyway I thought I'd share my thoughts on this show and see what other people think of it. I'd like to hear your opinions!

The odd thing is that the protagonist is really a despicable person, but she's so bad at being evil I can't hate her.

The biggest flaw I see is the boy. His design goes for "blandness incarnate" but comes out almost creepy, and he is passive to the point of feeling more like a plot device than a character. I can take a manipulative bitch who keeps sabotaging everything she does over someone who knows something is wrong but does nothing to help.

The English dub is great, too.

Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.

hm, I wouldn't describe Yamada as a despicable person per say. Although she is pretty selfish, I think that she just doesn't know what love is and whats really important about it. I think society has pressured her into thinking that sex is the only thing that's important and her self worth is only measured by how many men she's been with. She kept thinking, "Being as beautiful as I am what would people think if they found out I was a virgin?" That seemed to be her biggest fear and what has seemed to influence her actions. Part of her personality is being perverted, and her sexual fantasies only serve to make you laugh.

Her friend Takeshita tries to make her see the error of her ways but all she can think about is her status among her peers and the fact that she's still a virgin. But in the end she realizes that this is not whats important and becomes a better person....although we don't really get to see that in the anime.

This is why it needs to continue off the manga because in that she does reach that state of mind. Did you read the manga? If not and you liked the anime you should read it. The thing is it kinda does drag out for a long time, but in the manga there is a lot more focus on what the other characters are going through and I found that very interesting. Like Kanejo, for example, you could say is a pretty despicable person at first, but, like Yamada, also goes through a bit of a transformation.

I'd say Kosuda does have personality. He is pretty much like any guy his age; trying to follow a moral code and also being new to the experiences of relationships and sex. You can't say that Kosuda was too indecisive, at least not any more than the average guy his age that is a virgin. I mean, it's not like he never tried to make a move on her. In the very first episode he was ready to try and kiss her but she ran away confused about her own desires. Do you have any more opinions on the other characters?

I know its your opinion but you actually liked the English voice overs?? Did you watch it in Japanese with subtitles at all? The English version kinda changed my perspective of the characters...and made me hate Yamada. It changed too many aspects of the show and tried to incorporate American culture in a world that it didn't belong in. I think a lot of the humor came from the way the Japanese voice cast delivered their lines, and with the English voice over I felt that humor was lost, especially with Yamada and Kosuda. In all honesty I just couldn't sit through watching the English version, and I kinda wish that it didn't exist.

You have to understand though, it's been a while since this has aired, so the memories of the people here of it are a bit... fuzzy, especially without a rewatch.

I was under the impression though that quite a bit of the lewd jokes from the manga actually got left out from the anime, like the fact that Yamada's younger sister got more action than her, PER DAY, than she could even dream of.

Yeah, there were more lewd jokes in the manga than in the anime. Many times they would show yamada masturbating, or kosuda with his back turned with stockpiles of tissues.
