Haunter has a crazy high Special Attack stat. So it was both Super Effective and STAB.
I just saw Ivan Ooze die to a crit from Arbok. The reaction was incredibly priceless.

Yeah, after seeing Ivan go Super Saiyan in that Pryce battle, dying to an Arbok was so unexpected
That's what's so fun about their Nuzlockes. Going from Hero to Zero like that and seeing the guys react in kind is part of the charm. I felt the same way when Dwayndelyn bit the bullet after it's good run, particularly because it allowed the guys to beat Whitney.

I'm starting to think that Slowmara actually got hit by a crit. Looking up the damage calcs, Haunter should only have been able to take out like 70% of her Health. Since the edit zoomed in on the lifebar, I'm assuming we just didn't see the "Critical Hit" portion when it went back to normal.

If it was a critical, they would have shown that part too. They just tested their luck in a situation they shouldn't have.
