Also, like I said earlier, he got nothing better to do (his manga certainly isn't going anywhere). [lol]

Hotaru doesn't seem to have any interest in romance as well, her mind is permanently stuck in Nostalgia little kid mode.

I'm starting to think that outside of snack related things, she is asexual.

Or, maybe she is...well, her mind hasn't grown enough to comprehend such things. [lol]

Snacksexual sounds sexy to me.

In this episode of Dagashi Kashi...

You-san shameful addiction to certain powder.

Kokonotsu becomes a You Tube star. He might deny all he wants, but that boy sure loves dagashi. Also, obligatory Saya cameo.

Hotaru is terrible at gambling. Not that she needs more candy. She must have superhuman metabolism to burn through them as it is.

Episode 4.

Yup. That pose...they are not even trying to be subtle. XD

Also, I loved their deductive reasoning.

Episode 5: Don't do drugs, kids.

It's been fun.

Oh, was this the explanation for the joke in episode 1 where Hotaru was in the rice paddy? Because she thought she finally had a winning stick?

[up]

I'd say yes.

But man, that's truly awful luck with prizes. Kokonotsu is right, Hotaru should steer clear of gambling tables.

Yup, that's the Brick Joke explanation, I'd say. It still works in episode 1, because even by then it's clear that Hotaru is the kind of person to get worked up over a winning popsicle stick, but learning that she's never won one makes it all the funnier.

It's been fun.

god damnit, they so hit the nail on the head with this. I remember having some candy sticks like it and doing just that and imagining just that...

Playing with food and getting scolded - universal childhood experience.

I remember a sticky hands like those, except they were not edible, which is just as well since they became all dirty very fast.

It's easily to miss, but I like how Hotaru wears different outfits. A small detail but cool one.

Saya is such a cutie.

So this episode also reveals that Hotaru is kind of hopeless with games that don't involve chance too. Uh oh. Getting Kokonotsu to lose at something looks like a bigger challenge than anyone expects ahahaha.

Also LOL at Hotaru trying to push Saya into working at the candy shop.

Episode 7:

Festival episode.

Hotaru actually won something? Amazing!

Man, the director must be a hardcore Sayia fan, they are really mangling the adaptation to give her more focus and screentime. At this point they might have run out of chapters where she shows up. I hope they at least go back to the chapters they skipped over, because those were some of the best ones.

She is literally the best part of the show so I can not blame them for that.

Just toss her into the other chapters and we would be good too.

Yeah, I agree. Without Saiya to balance things out somewhat, Hotaru's antics for a full twentyfive minute show would get tiresome. Having the three of them together allows for better interaction than just having Hotaru as the candy crazy enthusiast and Coconuts as the straight guy. I like how friendly all three are with each other, with Hotaru being just as happy to hang around with Saiya as with Coconutski and vice versa. It's a very sweet show, in both senses of the word.

I do like how the show is giving Saya all these extra chances to interact with the Kokonotsu and Hotaru, as I remember her appearances being spaced REALLY apart in the manga. And she's a sweet girl too, plus her being so down-to-earth offsets the usual Hotaru-Kokonotsu craziness.

And hey, Hotaru won it big this time. I guess if it's a challenge based on her own innate skill rather than luck, she can win.

I was okay with the changes the adaptation did up until now. Sticking strictly to manga formula would have worked for a short format series, but not a full 24 minutes anime episode, so they needed to pad it out somewhat and they did pretty good. Saiya role got expanded but not really in an intrusive way, and generally I got little problem with that.

This episode however...

Skipping 30 chapters is rather outrageous, especially since those were some of the best ones, but since they can be for most part adapted in any order, I'm not yet angry at that, since they might come back to them later.

The really bad part about this episode is that they seem to be skipping chapter 56 which is not only the most important part of the summer festival arc, it's pretty much the most significant chapter in the manga to date. I'm honestly not sure what they are thinking doing that. I still hope that next episode will come back to it, because otherwise it will be a big stain on this adaptation.

They may be trying to keep that one for a finale, or a two- or three-episode arc near the end.

It's been fun.

Maybe, but if they were planning on doing a longer story for the final, the summer festival was the longest one, so they'll have to make something up.

Been watching this for a bit. It's cute enough, good some good jokes and seeing the history behind certain products is actually kinda interesting.

Kinda finding myself rooting for the Childhood Friend Romance here, which is kind of unusual. I suspect it's because of how they actually properly play up the "childhood" part of the Saya/Kokonutsu pairing, plus how well the theme of these old-fashioned snacks fits with the idea of childhood nostalgia in general.

Also, Hotaru is insane. Fun and energetic, but also insane to the point where they'd need to have her character bend over backwards in order for her to have a functional relationship with someone that isn't as obsessed as she is.
