By the way, Black Panther officially passed The Avengers in the American Box-Office, at $630m vs the Avengers' $623m.
In 38 days it beat what TA did in 154 days of exploitation.
When you adjust for inflation, Avengers made about $705 million (and was at $647 million by day 38). Not trying to take anything away from BP, which is doing fantastic; just want to compare apples to apples.
BP is ahead of where The Dark Knight was on day 38 after you adjust for inflation, though - so it's doing better than any other solo superhero movie.

Not only that, but after 5-6 weeks any given movie is making infintesimally small incriments to their gross total. When you word it as '38 days vs 156 days' you make it sound like they have only made 1/4 of their total box office. Black Panther will make maybe around 50 million more when it's done.
Yeah but adjusting for inflation also means The Avengers isn't even in the all-time top 25.
It also cost more to produce, and probably a freaking lot more to market, as it was the tentpole as opposed to BP.
Also considering that adjusted gross for The Dark Knight and The Avengers are only $20m apart, and that Black Panther has strong critics, word-of-mouth and has become much more of a societal phenomenon than The Avengers ever were when released, I think it is very possible for it to eventually beat the adjusted gross.
We still get news article about Black Panther today. Not cinema news, general news.

Wait what does exploitation mean in the context related here?

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Number of days it's been in movie theatres.
Yes, Avengers isn't even close to the biggest movie of all time. It did well, but it pales in comparison to stuff like the original Star Wars trilogy, or Juassic Park. That's why inflation-adjustment is useful for maintaining a sense of perspective rather than thinking that the biggest movies of "all time" all came out in the last ten years or so.
Whether BP outgrosses Avengers in inflation-adjusted terms largely depends on whether it is displaced by Infinity War, or is reinforced by it (i.e., a lot of people watching IW decide to watch or rewatch BP as well).

Avengers was a game changer. It doesn't matter if any other movie especially any other mcu movie does better it takes nothing away from the importance of the avengers. Without it black panther would most likely not even exist.
Yes, it was a game changer for superhero movies, and it popularized the idea of the "cinematic universe".
Deadline has once calculated the most profitable films of last year (however this time they only calculated the 10 most profitable films rather than 20 like the previous few years.) They are:
1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi - $417.5M
2. Beauty And The Beast - $414.7M
3. Despicable Me 3 - $366.2M
4. Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle - $305.7M
5. It - $293.7M
6. Wonder Woman - $252.9M
7. Spider-Man: Homecoming - $200.1M
8. Thor: Ragnarok - $174.2M
9. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - $154.7M
10. Get Out - $124.8M
Interestingly Fate of the Furious didn't even make a 125 million profit despite cracking 1.2 billion worldwide. I guess that shows what happens when you rely too much on international box office.
Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesOh wow, GET OUT is on that list? Awesome.
Actually, that list is pretty good in general. Pretty much all of those movies range from decent to fantastic, if you ask me. I'm still surprised Beauty and the Beast and Despicable Me 3 made as much money as they did, though.
A major thing people forget about the international box office is that due to a variety of factors, the studios see far less of a return from there than they do from domestic audiences, even if the movie is way more popular overseas.
It's part of the reason why the increasing need to pander so aggressively to the Chinese box office is so frustrating.
Beauty & the Beast was a box office juggernaut & Despicable Me 3 had a shoestring budget. What’s so surprising about that?
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Illumination has perfected the art of getting maximum profit from minimal effort. It isn't even just that their films run on shoestring budgets, they make ridiculous bank at the box office as well despite their continued mediocrity.
Link , please?
And here are the biggest bombs of the year.
1. King Arthur
2. Monster Trucks
3. The Promise
4. The Great Wall
5. Geostorm
Whoa, only half of them are Disney.
Where there's life, there's hope.Less than that (Homecoming is a Sony movie).
Is this the first year Deadline calculated the biggest bombs?

Peace is the only battle worth waging.Black Panther has passed two interesting inflation-adjusted benchmarks in the last couple days: domestically, it is now the highest-grossing movie with a black lead actor (passing Independence Day) and the third-highest-grossing superhero movie (passing Spider-Man).
That new King Arthur was the biggest bomb?

Mileena MadnessAnd Disney still hands him the entire Aladdin remake...
So how's the new Pacific Rim movie doing in the Box Office?
I'm hoping it does better this time even if its not as good as the first one.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Though unlike a lot of cases he does have a solid enough resume that you could reasonably write Arthur off as a misfire.
That said, yeah, I definitely wouldn't give him the reigns of another big budget fantasy epic.
It’s doing even worse.

Peace is the only battle worth waging.Ah well that's disappointing.
On one hand, goes to show ya that retools for a broader audience will never work & if you even try to do so, its your fault it failed. On the other hand, sad we'll never get that cartoon.
At least we have the original film, which will be remembered as a classic.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
Pretty much.
