And Beauty and the Beast has reached the top 50 of the all-time domestic grosses....and worldwide, it is now less than 300 Million away from the billion.

Oh, and Rogue one made it quietly into the billion club. Meaning Disney release four movies last year which made it past the billion mark -which becomes increasingly meaningless due to inflation and raised ticket prices. I guess the 1.5 Billion is now the mark to watch out for?

[up] Wasn't really discussed here, though, so I felt the need to point it out....

Bat B is nearing the 900 million mark...still thinking that my prediction of it cracking the billion mark is crazy?

No, that's been looking fairly likely for a while now.

It's slowed down a little at the domestic box office and should likely end up somewhere above $450 mil and below $500 mil there. Which is still more than I expect from any of the year's comic book fare.

No. It might crack 400 mil, but not 450.

For what it's worth, Beauty & the Beast has had a stronger hold through the work week so far than The Boss Baby (despite the latter winning the weekend).

[up] To be honest, I am not routing for either movie...one is pointless the other sounds plain stupid. I mostly see the success of Bat B as proof how beloved the original is.

[up] If you don't mind me asking, what did you think of Cinderella & The Jungle Book? Both are live-action Disney remakes, but the consensus seems to be that both are better than Beauty & the Beast.

[up] Haven't seen Jungle Book yet...and Cinderella...well.....

https://swanpride.wordpress.com/2016/12/02/honoring-the-heroine-cinderella/

My thoughts about the remake are at the very end of the article. But in short: The one thing the remake gets really, really wrong is Cinderella herself...sadly the whole story hinges on her character.

Looks like Ghost in the Shell will be the March loser, as Deadline reports that Paramont will lose at least $60 million. http://deadline.com/2017/04/ghost-in-the-shell-scarlett-johansson-box-office-flop-whitewash-1202061479/

Funny how this month we had two live-action adaptations of well-beloved animated movies with strong heroines, and both end up in polar opposites of success.

My money was on this one and Kong being the ones taking the hit of so many highly prolific movies being released in march...not sure if Kong escaped or not.....

[up] Wasn't really on my radar as a serous property to begin with.

My money was on Bat B walking away with all the money in the world. And it did. Not exactly happy about it, but at least nobody is trying to tell me that the live action version is in any way better than the animated original this time around.

Beauty and the Beast is only $23 million away from $1 billion & Kong: Skull Island has passed Godzilla's worldwide gross.

Beauty and the Beast is now the 29th film to reach $1 billion. Right now it is the highest grossing Walt Disney Pictures (not including the animated, Marvel, and Star Wars films) film in North America beating Dead Man's Chest and $66.2 million away from beating that same movie worldwide.

So it seems that Disney's future for live action remakes are set in stone. Let's just hope they don't become too blinded by money.

Sigh...they show tomorrow the original in a local theatre...sadly I can't go, because I'll have the house full of guests.

But prediction number one came true. It will interesting to see how much it will make in the end.

[up][up]Of course they will. It's Disney. They're ALL about the money, and anyone who ever says otherwise needs their blinkers removed stat.

I'm hoping the success of Beauty and the Beast is enough that they do a remake of Hunchback of Notre Dame, you know the epic musical that actually needs some fine tuning.
