System Shock 3

I want to be excited but I just don't know if I can be. We're in a dark age for gaming where it's not enough to ask if they can make a good new System Shock, but we also have to worry how much they'll deliberately sabotage the game to fleece another buck out of us.

God, it's good hearing SHODAN again...

So it's not enough that some of the old devs are doing it you have to be sure there's nothing like Micro-transactions?

Here's hoping that there's an opening sequence like SS 2 where you get to pick out your skills and stats before dropping into the game proper.

Anyone like the new, eyeless SHODAN? Redesigned by her original artist.

SHODAN probably has her data installed in another system after the events of 2, so I guess a change of avatar was justified.

...Part of me was kinda hoping for a game with Shodan driving a human body around like a meatpuppet.

Possibly with Shodan as the protagonist.

Yeah, I had been thinking that following up on the end of 2 like that was too good to pass up.

Rebecca Simmons needs to come back in some form.

I wonder if they'll go with Unity or Unreal for this one.

A press release clarified the legal situation, which was actually the product of a weird rights snafu. (Yay, fun!)

Basically, Otherside actually already had the rights to all sequel games in the series, which they acquired several years ago. But Night Dive had gotten the rights to the first two games, and the series logo and name itself.

So Otherside could have made a sequel any time they wanted, but they couldn't have called it System Shock. So...either the deal was in place at the time Night Dive gave out their "maybe" statement on 3, or they just look bad due to being misleading about the legal situation.

Thank God they got Terri. That was going to determine whether I played it or not.

^^^Would prefer Unreal just because Unity games seem to have memory leaks and otherwise perform rather... Poorly <_<;

As much as I am excited for Systen Shock 3, I'm gonna keep my expectations in check, at least until we see how Underworld Ascendant turns out.

Then there is the re-make of the original game from Night Dive, hopefully that turns out well.

Why do they keep changing SHODAN's appearance every game? People mostly know her look from System Shock 2, but barely remember what she looked like in the first game. Now that there's a third game, they changed it again.

It's also justified as her data ends up being installed in another system every time, thus the avatar change. Plus, it is the voice that is more iconic, not any of her avatars.

There is also a bit of fridge when you consider her avatar becomes less Giger-esque and more digital over time.

Night Dive have released a demo of the original remastered, and Jim Sterling has shown the demo.

He's actually impressed and from what I remember at this moment it's actually quite well done.

So, there is hope for 3.
