Was wondering if anybody else on this site knew about the series? They are very good 2D Platformers with a focus on both underwater and on-land gameplay with smooth and great controls that allow easy transition between the two, have very creative environments and characters, a really nice cute and cartoony artstyle, very fun gameplay and great boss battles, and also have a story focus along with gameplay, rare for a 2D Platformer (Especially one published by Nintendo). Unfortunately, the only Starfy game released in North America (And it didn't even come out in Europe), The Legendary Starfy (Which is the fifth game in the series), is the weakest in the series gameplay and story-wise, and didn't sell very well, so the series is very underrated and not well known in the West.

Well I saw an poster about it in an old GBA game. When it finally came the U.S. the commercial gave me the impression that it was an water-themed clone of Kirby...And that's it. I bought something else. Am I really missing out on something or is it just me?

[up] The gameplay is actually very different from Kirby. It's closer to Rocket Knight than Kirby, as you can spin into enemies to defeat them, do a charge attack that can ricochet off walls and allow you to shoot out of the water and reach high platforms while underwater, and eventually do a diving strike which can break blocks other attacks don't and deal more damage than a regular strike. The only resemblance between Starfy and Kirby is the cute artstyle (Even then, the Starfy series artstyle is also quite different from the Kirby series artstyle) and that the games aren't very difficult (Though they do have their challenging portions, especially 2 and 4).
