US children’s channel Boomerang will become the first English-language net to air the new French version of Peanuts, a kids’ show featuring iconic US cartoon characters Charlie Brown and Snoopy.

The deal was struck with France TV Distribution, the commercial arm of French pubcaster France Télévisions, and will see the shorts airing on Turner Broadcasting-owned Boomerang with promotional crossover on Cartoon Network and its app.

If you read this on the Wacky races reboot thread, then you are aware that this is going to be a legit thing. Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Sally, and of course Snoopy are being recreated for the small screen again. This is the first Peanuts full length series since "The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show" in the 80's. Anybody wondering what to expect in this iteration?

1. The prior show was called "The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show", not "Peanuts show", :p

2. Not too much to expect. Maybe quality-wise for it to be as entertaining as some of the Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show shorts were.

You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!

I wonder if they're only pushing the "Peanuts" name now to avoid recycling titles with "Charlie Brown" or "Snoopy" in them, or if it's more like "Charles Schulz can't tell us they're not called 'The Peanuts' anymore!".

[up] Wouldn't be surprised if you were right.

Not entirely sure what to expect. It's obviously not the first Peanuts animated project to be done without Shultz's involvement (the new film from Blue Sky isn't, either) but the question arises, what material will they be using? Unless I'm mistaken, every other project (before the new film) used either material from the strips or scripts to which Shultz contributed. I expect the scripts will be written, and production overseen, by Shultz's family-owned production company, which has been handling the Peanuts property since his death. They've been doing pretty well, in my opinion, so I'm at least cautiously optimistic.

France seems to be the go-to place for made-for-TV CGI. Or am I making a mistake in assuming it'll be computer animated?

I'm kind of hoping for a 2D-computer animation to keep the feel of the original specials. Also, maybe they will have original ideas for some of the shorts. Happiness is a warm blanket, Charlie Brown was a cute and fun new-age original special. In fact, why didn't they just ask the staff of "Happiness" to create the show?

[up] Actually, the plot for Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown wasn't original, but taken from the comic strips (from a sequence sometime in the 70's, I think).

[up][up]It even had been used as the plot for a set of previous TV shorts long before the special.

So it's coming tomorrow @ 11:30 A.M. Here's my question, though: Why is it aired on a time when kids are at school and adults are going to work? Who are they airing it for?

Hey, this doesn't look so bad. I wonder if Franklin will be featured.
