Eve just straight out ignored Rex's question about her being bitter. That was a combination of factors that weren't likely to happen again, especially if she just avoided the library and tunnels for the day. Easy.
Then she shrugged. "I was mainly talking about you using it to find your brother, but that works too." A breath. "What's the worst that could happen? If the information is false, you just check it first. Then.you have the same amount of information that you do now."

When Ciri mentioned eating, Lucas felt a bit of a hunger pang, as if his body was in complete agreement with Ciri. While Lucas hadn't been going completely without food like Yoshika had, most of the things he had eaten were focused on fueling the mind rather than the body. Healing could keep his body working as normal, but it was far behind actual food in the avoiding starvation department.
Well, Lucas had to decide soon, or else both options might run off from him. After a minute of thought, he said back to the Witcheress "Well, it has been a while since I ate a real meal. I'd love to join you guys, I just want to know if this will take a really long time. I would feel pretty selfish if I held everyone up for a while over this when I could just get food from Ms. Tairee in a second, after all. By the way, you said some progress was made? What exactly happened?"

I noticed Elias looking towards us for a moment, at which point Rex immediately let go of my hand. I didn't even realize we were still holding hands, but apparently Elias seeing it was enough to make him let go. I wondered if Rex was afraid of Elias getting the wrong idea from it, but judging from the reaction, it looked like he already did.
The topic of Rex's memories brought him down again as he now looked at the floor, talking about his fears regarding looking for information in the library regarding his past, specifically that he wasn’t sure if he really wanted to remember. Maybe he had already learned some things that made him hesitate, but the only thing I could think of was...
"Did you... do something you're ashamed of, Rex?"
I wasn’t expecting him to give details, or even answer at all, but I just wanted to leave the question open if he felt comfortable saying anything.

I didn't say anything for a few moments, only forcing myself to answer so that he'd know to actually use the damn thing, and even then still not turning to face him.

"Of course!" Plague Knight proudly said to Ciri. "I am the greatest alchemist in all of Pridemoor Valley, after all!" It was then Plague Knight noticed the radio going off. He picked up and silently listened to the ensuing conversation.
Ben said that some miscreant was masquerading as him and attacking innocents. The knight thought that was odd, as while there are people who would have a vendetta against the boy, there were none he knew that could shapeshift. Maybe that faux-spirit that used to live in Ben's device. At least he mentioned a very vague description of its capabilities, so the knight knew what to watch out for.
Luckily, Ben found Thomas shortly after. Caro suggested using a test to make sure to identify everyone by asking questions an individual would know in case the shapeshifter transformed into someone else, but Louis shot it down, showing that none of the group knew each other well whenever to make the strategy viable.
It was then Lucas came to meet up them, mentioning the challenge Rex accepted.
"You mean that one challenge Rex accepted behind everyone's back?" Plague Knight asked Lucas. "Best of luck to you."
Then Ciri mentioned making breakfast. "Thank you for the offer," Plague Knight said. "Has been a while since I had a meal taken over a nice open flame. Been relying on much of the advanced technology this City usually offers. Hopefully you have enough because the rest of the City Knight are congregating here. Apparently there's a villain masquerading as Ben in some poor attempt to frame the boy. Probably some trickster harassing the populace," he said.
Then to Lucas again. "I have managed to create a potion that managed to grant knowledge!" the alchemist said to the psychic, pride clearly obvious in the knight's voice. "Originally I made it to increase Yoshika's general intelligence, but it is a step forward!"
DAMMIT MARK, STOP HOTTING HELPY!!
"But, you know, if you don't have the time to sit down and eat a whole plate or somethin', you can give it to me," she said to Lucas, her eyes wide. "I can eat all of it. I can eat anything." She maintained her firm lock on Lucas' eyes for a moment, before suddenly snapping back to reality. "Also, what kinda challenge?"
Ciri - The Alleged Hospital Optometry Room
"I doubt this would be enough to feed your entire order, but if we need more Yoshika could always use practice on her crossbow with a moving target," Ciri said to Plague Knight. "But what do you know of this trickster beyond what you've said? We have a creature in my world known as a doppler, truly a horrifying foe as it can take on all of the abilities of the target it copies. Or nearly all, at least. They wouldn't be able to replicate my Elder Blood, but they could certainly match my swordsmanship.""Yoshika's right, what does this challenge entail?" she added to Lucas. "Have you changed your mind about helping protect Yoshika? Or is it quite important? If Rex needs your help, from what he's told me he's been involved in things that effect the entire city."

Eve didn't answer the question about her bad mood and instead assure Rex that learning about his brother, even if the information wasn't accurate, was better than not being in the know. Rex still hesitant but he had to admit he was curious to see what he brother was like.

Chise, meanwhile, seemed to have caught on with what Rex was feeling and wondered if he was ashamed of something he had done to be so adamant about not learning of his past.
"I..." Rex was caught off guard and for a split-second considered explaining what had happened in Hong Kong but chose not to. No one was going to be able to justify that and especially not himself "I don't want to talk about it"

Looks like I got it right and, as expected, he wasn't very eager to tell me anything about it. That was fine, at least I knew the source of the problem now and maybe I could help him even without the context.
"That's fine, you don't need to tell," I told him, pausing for a few seconds to try to let the words come into mind, "but... speaking as someone who met you just today, I can't really see you as a bad person. Even if in the past you might have done something wrong, that doesn't change the person that you are now."
I wanted to give him some more comfort, but couldn't really think of something he or I would be comfortable with, so I decided to just hold his hand again. It seemed like the simplest option, plus Elias wasn't even looking at us anymore.
"I don't know what you did, but it really doesn't matter to me. The fact you're so ashamed of it already makes it clear that you wouldn't do something like that again," I told him, giving him a sincere smile.

Eve shrugged. If Rex didn't want to find out more about his brother, that was his prerogative, and she wasn't one to judge. However, it did seem like he did want to know more, he was just scared of knowing false information. It was his choice, though. Not hers. Nevertheless, she did wonder why getting false information would be that bad. Better than none.
Ah. Rex was ashamed of something. In response to his answer to Chise's question Eve looked slightly sympathetic. "Everyone has things they'd rather not remember. What you do know of your past scares you. Or you're ashamed of it." Then Chise said her piece, and Eve had trouble not laughing. Plenty of people wouldn't feel that way. Half of Chronos, for one. Eve just had to presume Chise had never met any of them. Eve stayed silent for a couple of seconds. Then she raised her head, and her eyes seemed distant, like she was quoting someone. "To forget is a curse, but a blessing also. If humanity remembered, we'd stop having wars. And babies."

Arcade was curious if anyone in the hospital wasn't grappling with severe trauma that they would prefer to simply move past. The asshole who sent him spiraling earlier, probably.
He didn't have enough context to make a judgement call on Rex yet, but his guilt was apparent enough, so he just decided to get to know him first. Chise was being a little naive, even for a Follower, but then she took his hand.
Oh.
Well, if he knew either of them, he'd probably have an opinion on that relationship. As it was, he was more interested in what Eve had to say.
Arcade couldn't help think of the Enclave as she talked about war. They were determined to ignore the consequences their actions had, trying in vain to destroy everything not completely "pure". The lives destroyed by... By his people, were a result of the Enclave trying to bury its head in the sand.
Would he want to forget? If given the chance? If he could just wipe the slate clean and forget everything related to the Enclave, even his family. He didn't know whether he'd want that.
Arcade couldn't help but brace an arm against the wall. He had the opportunity here, didn't he? Would he be willing to sacrifice something in exchange for making his life easy?

Something about the way Yoshika looked at him when talking about her eating capabilities made Lucas feel a bit uncomfortable. But the moment passed, allowing Lucas to just push it to the back of his mind and focus on the first thing she said. She could play the guitar now? How wonderful! Not the desired result, sure, but Lucas was still happy, especially considering how little he expected from Plague Knight on this matter.
He listened to the talk about Ben. There wasn't really much he could say on the matter, but he filed away the information for later use.
And on to the most important question. Everyone wanted to know what the challenge he was planning on helping with was. Lucas said to them all "Oh, it isn't the one Rex accepted for everyone else. Um, It's a challenge he's doing to help the leader of the NHA, Silanea. Her people are all dead, so I guess that the reward will be fixing that. Rex seemed kind of clueless about the specifics, but it has something to do with entering her mind... and maybe fighting something... I know it doesn't really inspire confidence to have such a vague description, but I can't just ignore it when I might be able to help."

Crash-Grocery Grove-Hi Ho Dino!
Baby T was in absolute heaven as Simon petted the little dinosaur, waging his large tale and giving off happy little yips all the while.
As the group finally made to leave the grove, Crash gave a sharp two-fingered whistle. Baby T paused when he heard the whistle and made to run to Crash's side, but not before giving Simon a final affectionate lick, coating Lagann's hand in dino slobber. Running up behind Crash, Baby T whipped him up into the air with his head, with Crash then landing perfectly on Baby T's back.
"Yehaw!" Crash exclaimed, heading off with the group.
Chise was concerned about Rex and assured him that whatever he had done in the past didn't change all the good he was doing now. She even held his hand again while saying that his guilt was already proof enough of his recovery. Rex pulled his hand back to himself because he wasn't the one needing emotional support right now. He was perfectly fine, just a bit stressed.
"I'm fine, really. I'm not the one with the biggest problems around here. The life I have now is pretty good. It's jut that I'm not sure if I want to remember everything before that"
Eve was actually supportive of Rex's feelings and mentioned that everyone had memories they would rather get rid off. As for her nugget of wisdom, he understood what she tried to explain with babies, war, and all that but the metaphor wasn't particularly helpful to Rex.
"I get what you mean but that's honestly a weird way to put it" There was something there that clearly implied her past wasn't happy but Rex wasn't going to press the matter right now "And I suppose you are talking from experience?" Ok, so maybe just a little.

Rex assured me that he was fine and that he wasn't the one who needed the most help right now. That was true, we ended up getting quite sidetracked from the whole challenge thing to help the snake lady, so maybe now would be a good time to drop the subject and go back to other matters at hand. I got what I wanted to say out and Eve tried to help too although... she had an interesting way to explain her point of view.
"All right. And speaking of people who need help..." I glanced at the snake lady for a moment and then at Elias, "I think Elias is talking to the owner of this place so we can work here, so we probably will need to wait until that's done."
I thought back to that little magic door Rex had with him and wondered if Elias had any idea of what it could be. Perhaps it was some kind of artifact or magic item that I just hadn't learned about yet, it didn't seem out of the realm of possibility at least.
"Maybe Elias could even know what exactly is that little door you have with you," I suggested.

Eve shrugged. "It was a quote. A good quote, too." Then Rex had to pry and her expression turned deadpan. "Rex, I got shot. Seven times. That tends to be painful." She knew that that wasn't what he was asking about, but that was the answer he was going to get.
Eve raised an eyebrow. "A little door?"

"... and that's why I decided to call him Roger."
"Oh." Morty mulled over this story of a few moments as he bounced along on the dinosaur's back, swaying with every step like a ship at sea. "So- huh. That - that was a real crazy story, huh?"
"Your *urp* listening game's on point, Morty, I- I think that's what the kids are saying nowadays. Oh, look, speak of the devil..." Roger snorted a bit and crashed through a nearby stand of cycads, sending a few small birds - and birdlike things - flapping indignantly up into the canopy, revealing Ben, Lewis, and Thomas.
"Lewis, Ben.... uh... you..." Rick nodded to each of them in turn before taking a swig from his flask. "Heard about the *urp* the ki - the m- the murderous shapeshifter on the loose, huh? Been there, done that..."
"Where did you guys go?!" asked Morty plaintively, " I got lost and then I almost got eaten by a dinosaur-"
"Flying reptile, Morty."
"-flying... reptile."
The discussion around Arcade faded away as he contemplated his options. Everything would be so much easier if he just forgot the Enclave. If all of his ties were washed away, never to bother him again.
He'd have to make a deal, like the one Caro described.
That gave him pause. He'd have to hurt someone, wouldn't he? He'd have to selfishly cause some innocent person to suffer.
No, he'd rather maintain the status-quo than possibly hurt or kill someone who didn't deserve it. He refused to stoop that low.
He sighed and approached the group, feeling awfully alone in the hallway and managing to hear Eve mention getting shot. She probably wanted that conversation to end, and he was happy to be a distraction if she needed one. Eve already asked his question, so he simply stood beside her.
I say that aloud too sometimes, just: "man, no life."
For the Horde!
Cybersaur looked back at Lewis. "Thanks, I guess," he muttered, looking towards Thomas. "How do you use that stuff? You should keep your strength up while we make our way back to the hospital." At that moment, Rick and Morty came out of the jungle. Cybersaur furrowed his brow.
"What do you two want? You guys gonna blame me for killing all those people too?" he accused. "Not in the mood to hear nonsense right now. I'm innocent! I couldn't possibly kill all those people, heroes don't do that, ever!" He sighed, rolling his eyes and continuing to walk. "You guys better be here to help me... we're heading to the hospital to get Thomas patched up, and then we're gonna find the creep pretending to be me."
I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.
Eve didn't want to talk about her bad past, which was understandable. But she also wasn't going to get that much sympathy from getting shot. Everyone had gone through that at this point and it's not like she didn't have powers to deal with that.
"Join the club"
Meanwhile, Chise stopped trying to comfort Rex about his past and changed the topic to Elias' help. He was a bit busy talking with the head doctor but maybe he knew what the deal was with the door. After hearing about that, Eve was curious. That was a good thing then, she hadn't seen Silanea hugging Rex.
"The key to the challenge" he said, taking the door out of his pocket "We put this on Silanea's head and then we... enter or something. I'm still not sure"

"Yeah, me. Though if you mean specifically just the pharmacy, then no" Dave said, pausing and looking back at Elias. "And let me guess, that's what you're volunteering for?" the doctor asked. He opened his mouth to say something else, when something seemed to occur to him suddenly, and he muttered, "wait a minute..."
Dave then walked over to the front door and opened it to look out at the grove of medicinal herbs and plants growing beneath the coverage of the hospital tree. "... My pharmacy has turned into a garden" Dave thought out loud, and let out a groan of frustration as he placed a hand to his face. After a couple moments of silence, he looked back at Elias again. "Alright then buddy, just tell me something first. How can I be sure you're not just a junkie looking to get his fix? Or planning on handing them out for some kind of profit?" the doctor asked him.
Meanwhile off to one side of the lobby room, Silanea and Fastanook kept waiting as the others talked, only currently hearing snippets of the conversation. Fastanook eventually glanced over and noticed how sad Silanea looked. With a slightly guilty expression, Fastanook thought for a moment, then looked back at her with a small smile. "Hey uh, we've both been kidnapped to another dimension by some bored god thing. And uh..." Fastanook glanced away slightly as he tried to think of something else, before adding, "and we're both trying to keep things peaceful."
Silanea looked over and then smiled slightly as well, but said nothing.
Through the front door as Dave currently had it left open, an approaching voice called out. "Hey, doc'! We heard there was some kind of situation here?" Nails hollered as he and Phillip approached the door.
"Rex called it in; he better not have ditched us again" Phillip added.
"Rex? Kid with the goggles? Yeah he's right there" Dave answered, pointing at Rex from the doorway.
"Not today, no" Blue answered Digger simply. "If you want to stay tomorrow night, we'll give you another chore tomorrow. But once we get back with this food, you can do whatever you like for the rest of the day" he explained to her. Blue then looked over at Crash riding the young dinosaur and laughed a bit.
"... I feel a lot of pain?" Thomas muttered to Ben a bit dryly, with a hint of possible sarcasm, then glanced down at the container of gel after Lewis mentioned it had healing properties. "Oh, thank you very much" the young wizard said quietly and honestly, then tried to figure out how to open it and start putting some on his wounds under his robes.
"Ben, you're chopping out a bit. You said a big tree in the jungle? Any way you could narrow that down, or put a signal out above it?" Louie's voice said over the channel.
"None of that sounds any worse than things in my home universe, honestly" Miss Tairee mentioned after Cole explained how bad his home was. "And the worst days here are still yet to come" the librarian added, briefly looking away with a slightly worried expression.
Miss Tairee looked back down at Cole as he started to curl up and break down; she gave a small sigh, then smiled sympathetically and rubbed his back with one hand. "Alright, alright, I think that's enough of the heavy topics for now. Let's let you really be like a kid for a while" Miss Tairee said gently, then patted Cole's back. "What would you like to do now, Cole? What sort of thing do you do for fun?" the librarian asked him in the same kind of tone.

He shook his head, scooting towards the edge of the couch as though to get to his feet. "I can't do enough, I'll never be able to do enough to stop it, I can't, everyone tells me to do more but I don't know what more to do!"

Miss Tairee's expression fell as Cole clearly didn't take on with her idea of switching to do something fun. "Cole, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you" Miss Tairee said, moving to crouch on her knees in front of the couch, right in Cole's path. "Please listen to me, Cole. It's not just about what you can do. That was another thing I was hoping you'd understand from Raynor's story; from the friends and allies he made" the librarian told him, somberly looking at him.
"Cole, it's okay to admit that you can't do everything yourself. It's okay to ask for help. That's something you can always do, when there isn't anything else" Miss Tairee told Cole quietly, nearly at a whisper. "Ask your friends back home with your next call, ask your new friends here in the city, ask my boss, ask me- don't just give up and let it happen" the librarian continued, looking at Cole with a sad expression.

I barely looked behind me briefly enough to see Rick miraculously still having the same scaly steed he had earlier at the grove, having apparently picked up Morty sometime between us leaving the church and now. Ugh, how much more crowded could this place get? Ben just couldn't take a hint and he was taking forever to fuck off and every moment he stayed here more people kept coming and I couldn't stand any of them much more than I could Ben himself and how dense and selfish could they all be and for god's sake Ben was doing it again why wouldn't they just hurry up and go away already?

Cole's face hardened slightly as Miss Tairee talked, almost going into what he thought he might have called a lecture. It wasn't that he didn't understand where she was coming from, he did...it was just...well.
"You sound just like Ben," he finally said, softly, looking up at her. "I...I know that you know more about many worlds than I do, and that...you have seen the things you say. I would not try to say otherwise, but..."
He sighed softly. "I did mean the entire city, not just here in the library. Back home...the only things I haven't seen there that I have seen here are the days when the world went gray, and the day we all turned into animals...and that is only because only certain mages can shapeshift into animals. One of them came and helped us."
Cole looked down at his lap. "There are demons that stalk and prey on people, trying to turn them into abominations, or twist their minds to make them killers. Some of them have taken the faces of other people to make them do as they want, to follow their commands. There are places where the sand blows and the air is so hot, where if you stop walking the sand might pull you down with it, filled with beasts that will chase you, tear you to bits...there are monsters that will..."
His voice trailed off, as he just stared down at his hands in his lap, before sighing. "It doesn't matter, I'm...sorry. ...there are horrible things here, and I know for most people being away from their home, and their families and friends hurts, but...I've..."
There might have been a slight hitch to his voice, and he wiped at his eyes with the back of one arm. "I-I...I've...found people to make a family, and...people who...w-who accepted me and d-don't look at me with f-fear or pity or disgust or...o-or hatred...for all the terrible things that have happened and for all that I've gone through, I've...I've also learned so much...and you're here trying to teach me more...and none of it would have...would have ever happened back in Thedas...a-and...and I...I...I don't even want to go back..."
He looked very ashamed at that, covering his face with his hands and pulling his knees to his chest, curled into a ball as though preparing to be attacked. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry I know that's not what you want me to learn but...but I just...I want to stay here, I don't want to go back...if...if I could bring my friends here instead of leaving them there I...I'm sorry...I'm sorry, please don't...I know it's silly..."
