Here I am after work now. I definitely intend to post a response for Hercules tonight, however I'm not going to work on that right away just yet, so it will probably be a bit still.

Not sure if I'll be posting in response to Garrett just yet tonight; I'm supposed to have plans going on with my real life friends starting hopefully any time now. However, even if I don't get to it tonight, I will certainly be able to tomorrow.

Korodzik is two for two on posting on nights that I had plans with friends; just like before, I can't guarantee a post tonight, but I should be able to do one tomorrow for sure.

Once again Korodzik has posted on a day when I might not be able to. Just as well; I'd kind of like to give Starscream more time for a post for Hercules anyway. I should definitely be able to post tomorrow though if I don't tonight.

Been away for a bit here (and the other parts). Lately, internet connection's been a bit FUBAR with the provider. Seems fine now.

Whoa, an unexpected surprise post from Ocean? Well, I'll need to see about writing up a response then, but first I gotta check up on discord and do some quick work on something else.

I know that I haven’t posted lately like the others due to the likes of COVID.

But I’m dropping a note that personal matters popped up, so I’ll have to take care of it first. I may hang around somewhere else in the forums if I have some time to lean back...

Merry Christmas everyone, or Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, happy holidays or whatever you do or don't celebrate. As is my Christmas tradition on this website, I first wish you all merry Christmas from Chiron Beta Prime.

Now I hope you are all well and safe. This year has been an awfully bad one, with the pandemic and all. I've been pretty fortunate myself, but I know not everybody has, and I am sorry if times have been hard for you.

Now, I'm not going to beat around the bush any longer, because I owe you all an apology; I've failed you as a GM. For a time I've had myself convinced that as long as I still had my commitment to post as long as anyone else was- which I still do, since that was a promise- that I wouldn't have failed, but I'm done pretending that's the case.

The City Of Lost Characters was supposed to be a fun, pleasant crossover role playing game, but I ruined that with long plot arcs that overstayed their welcome until people were no longer enjoying them: Old Feather Beak, four days of near-constant combat as the finale, just to name the big ones. I didn't listen when people told me they weren't fun, as I had seemingly subconsciously convinced myself I could do no wrong.

So again, I apologize. I apologize for that and all the stupid arguments and the times I told you guys not to do something when you were just having fun. I was starting to become at least somewhat like those people I hate, and I can't forgive myself if I allow that to continue.

And here we are, pretty much stuck now. If there is some kind of magic post I could make that would wrap up the end of the game in a satisfactory way without it being a big Ass Pull, I have not yet thought of it.

But, there is something else that I realized after a lot of thinking; just because we don't yet have the exact ending of this game yet, doesn't mean it isn't possible to already start some kind of spin-off or continuation. Maybe it's selfish of me, but I don't want ruining people's fun and being stuck into limbo to be the end of this. We don't really need to know exactly how this game ends in order to go on with new content; it would only really be a problem for those who really want to play a returning character who was around during the end of this game. However, I don't want to be the kind of GM to take my ball and go home with it either.

So, as my Christmas present, I am ready to announce that I am willing to either launch a new City Of Lost Characters game early next year; or, if you would prefer, to grant my blessing for someone else to launch their own City Of Lost Characters game. This time, things would be kept actually lighter and softer; not that nothing bad would ever happen, but probably not plan any more long standing villain arcs, or multiple days in a row of combat marathons. I'd try to bring it back to just a fun game for role playing with each other, like it always should have been.

ANNOUNCEMENT

I'll try not to make this too word-y, though like with my last post, I certainly don't want to leave some things un-said. Last night I found myself rereading through the Silanea mindscape plot and a good part of Day 24 as well. When I went to bed, I didn't get a whole lot of sleep, and I kinda messed up my shoulder, but, somehow while laying there, it finally came to me.

I think I finally thought of a way to wrap up the final battle, without needing any more player posts, in a way that doesn't personally feel like too much of an ass pull or possibly being unsatisfying... Well, probably not entirely actually, but certainly less unsatisfying than being stuck in limbo forever. Anyway, with that and in the same post, I could finally move things on to Day 30, so you guys could do your goodbyes, happy endings, and epilogues. If anyone still wants to do that.

I'm sorry that it took 229 days for me to think of something. It shouldn't have taken that long.

I know that some, if not a lot of you have probably already moved on. That you no longer care. Or you're worried about whether or not you're even going to be welcomed back. So let me be clear:

If you have ever posted in City Of Lost Characters, you are welcome to come back and request things move into Day 30. I don't care how long ago you stopped posting or in what circumstances you left; I feel as GM I owe it to my players to have a chance at closure here. But if you don't want to, do not feel like you are obligated to; I sincerely mean that and I am not trying to guilt trip anyone.

I am, admittedly, feeling tempted to go ahead and make the post at some point even if nobody responds to this, just for myself. For now though, I'll be waiting to hear what others have to say.

Wow, nice! If you really can give the game some closure, that'd be real swell.

Some closure would be good, yeah. I do feel like I did a really bad job in this RP, but perhaps I can slightly set things right on Day 30, when there isn't a massive threat causing Ben to be miserable. We'll see when things get rolling again, but let's hope I don't completely butcher Ben on this last day.

I plan to give Ben a happy ending, at the very least. After all that's happened with him, he needs something happy.

I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.

Well, glad to see some positive responses. I've already started to work on it, but it will probably be a while still before it's done. Certainly not tonight, and probably not tomorrow either. Friday maybe, but I think Saturday night may be the most likely time, technically early Sunday morning because my work shift on Saturday is until midnight.

@Oceanstuck: I was not planning on directly bringing it up, but I was intending that those NPCs would still be around. Which would mean you could try getting that final closure there after all.

Day 30, a new dawn

  • BREAK DAY RULE: It is absolutely impossible for anyone to get hurt. Anything that would cause even the slightest amount of harm or pain, including things like hunger or headaches, simply doesn't happen. The method of how it fails to happen can range from the simply unlikely to the outright physically impossible, but the important thing is that it fails, and it will never not fail; it is impossible to get around this rule no matter how indirectly you attempt to.
    • In addition to that, there is also a city wide blanket positive mental effect happening. It does not outright prevent sad emotions from happening, but it does help keep them at bay. It also makes everyone usually stay clear headed with their thoughts.

  • Characters are their usual selves. This includes an automatic undoing of anyone that was technically still mind controlled by evil Miss Tairee at the end of the previous day.
    • Everyone will find themselves waking up somewhere feeling like they just had a long and full rest.

  • The city is, on appearance, its usual self. However it is loaded with a lot more conveniences than usual.
    • Anyone who inherently, crucially is in need of something in order to have basic functionality, (IE, someone who lost their legs who needs a wheelchair) will find that what they need is conveniently at their disposal and available, wherever they wake up.
    • Not only is the food restocking still instant, but whenever you open a pantry or fridge or such, you'll be finding things that you'd want to eat.
    • The city shifting is now extremely biased to take you to where you want to go, or need to go; even if you don't actually know which place it is.

  • A gentle breeze blows through the city.

  • Anyone who had something they wanted, but would've lost due to city respawning rules will now have that back.

  • As mentioned by Writer, all characters are now open to negotiate being returned to their home universe; whether that be at the moment they were originally taken so almost as if they never left, after the same amount of time has passed in that universe as they've been in the city, or negotiate being returned at a different time. Alternatively they can even negotiate being sent to a different universe rather than their own home.
    • Also as mentioned, all characters that took part in trying to take down the evil Miss Tairee, even just by a bit or by indirect help, will be granted a wish; even some characters that probably would have taken part but were for whatever reason unable to will probably be given one anyway. (So basically every player character, plus some NPCs.) There is no set restriction to the wish, except that it must be accepted by Writer, Director, and Developer; they're willing to be very flexible to make the characters' desired outcome achievable in some way though.

@This: Indeed it is, though we're literally just wrapping up the very ending currently. Accepting any new players at this point wouldn't really work out. (And wouldn't make any sense in the story either.)

However, Oceanstuck is working on the sequel game which will hopefully be ready to start in the not too distant future, (hard to give any ETA on it now though) which will of course be open to new players.
