It's not just "we don't like change". Several points have been made why the old image is better (more focus on Peach rather than the person she's beating, showing the action more clearly).
And many points have been made why the suggestion is better.
Currently it's tipping around 50/50.

The current is preferable to the suggestion. The angle is such that the current places emphasis on the action itself, while the suggestion seems to focus more on the reaction of the victim. Personally, I don't give a damn about the argument of "we have to use the most recent game," versus, "We shouldn't change things just for the sake of changing things." The only thing that matters is that the current is a slightly better illustration of the trope.

Existence Weighed Against Nonbeing
The current is more focused on the actual ass doing the kicking. The suggestion puts too much emphasis on the reaction of the guy getting hit.
