there's no reason the spilt the threads, such action should have been done when the show first started airing however.

I thought the manga was already finished.

It has been for a few months, yeah. There's technically still new info filtering into the EN fandom via the Complete Adventurers' Bible, which came out in February, but yeah.

I don't think we need a separate thread, we just need people in here to be considerate about tagging.

It's been fun.

Finished watching Ep. 11 and damn. Seeing Falin's skull was such a powerful gut punch.

The cinematography of being inside her freaking skull and then seeing how gross it was outside… chills.

How accurate would we say the anime is to the manga, BTW? How much was left out?

Haven’t noticed any big misses in the adaptation so far

[down] I do miss that scene with Laios’ leg though

I would say it's pretty accurate. There are bits and pieces left out (in this episode since I just went to check after the episode, the flashback has Laios and Falin eavesdropping on their father talking to other townsfolk to overhear about the ghost rather than Laios just telling Falin about it, and there's an additional exchange where Chilchuck calls Laios creepy for sacrificing his leg to kill the dragon and Marcille tells him not to be mean). Little bits like that.

It's been fun.

Yeah, those are reasonable to streamline the narrative for animation. They are not really relevant to the plot, and would just take up valuable seconds of airtime.

Episode 12: Trigger did magnificent with Marcille's black-magic revival of Falin, and Laios' and Marcille's heartwarming reunions with Falin. If only this was the happy ending... nah who am I kidding, this story is still cooking.

DRAGON PIZZA!!!

And of course Falin is immediately on board the monster food train, but between her magic being seemingly supercharged it looks like that the dark magic will probably have some kind of side effect.

And now the elf from the paintings is back.

We reached the end of the initial setup, now lets see in what direction the story goes from here.

[up][up][up] Imagine how that felt a few years ago when we were only up to that point in the manga, and it really did look like the happy ending was just in sight. But it was only the beginning.

We need to petition the publishers to make an official cookbook with real world substitutions for the more fantastical ingredients. Showing us delicious dragon steak and dragon stomach oven pizza with no real life equivalent is just cruel!

[up][up] We were definitely wishing that would be the case! Or at least if anything untoward happened, it would be, like, minor dragonification quirks. Not the mad dungeonmaster wreaking havoc on everything.

I found this Tumblr post from user lunahearts analyzing chapter 28 of the manga in light of later developments. There are some spoilers for much later parts of the series involved, so don't read if you're anime-only, but this is such a great read of chapter 28 and the character work between Marcille, Falin, and Laios.

It's been fun.

Having to reassemble your sister's skeleton is already all kinds of messed up... but then hitting on her skeleton? And the other boys joining in? That's a little much. grin

Marcille is rather scary in this episode. She's also a bit too much into washing Falin. grin

Wait, resurrection also restores scars? That's... weird, when you think about it.

Senshi is lighting a cooking fire in the middle of a magic circle. Aside from the dragon fire fuel, that just seems like really bad juju... and really uncharacteristic for someone who hates anything magic, too.

While I haven't been watching the anime (I'm planning to binge it once it finished), I have been dipping in every now and again to see some of my favourite scenes animated and I am loving what I have seen so far. So, a question for manga readers, what future scenes are you most looking forward to seeing animated? The ones I am looking forward to are: Chimera Falin; the Shapeshifter; the Changeling Mushrooms; Mithrun vs. the underworld boss and his goons; Marcille's succubus; any and every scene with Izutsumi in.

Yeah, this is the episode where Cerebus Syndrome kicks in, and the simple and clean search-and-rescue adventure story suddenly becomes a lot more complicated and morally ambiguous. The backstories that complicate characters will be upon us soon.

Dark elves are mentioned here, but the series doesn't really do that much with that idea. Basically, elves that do dark magic are considered criminals, and that's about as far as the idea of "dark elf" goes here.
