Well, that sounds plausible but what would be the motive? Is the art appraiser the murderer? If so, why?

Kinda seems like Utsumi just wanted a chance to hit on Sakurako.

I don't think he'd be able to come up with a plan this cunning.

Asking the pretty girl to come help because of a friend's ridiculous concern over a curse is too complex?

I don't have very high opinion on his intellect.

Also if that's actually his plan, it's an awful one on so many levels.

Arha Since: Jan, 2010

That it's an awful plan is why I think it's one he'd come up with. I mean, the alternative to that is that I'm supposed to believe he's really that concerned about a man he hasn't met in twenty years. Shit, I barely even remember the names of friends from middle school let alone caring that much about them and I'm not nearly as old as they are.

That's awfully cynical of you.

I don't believe it for a second, Utsumi is supposed to be sympathetic, I can't see him using that guy's problems to his own advantage like this.

Yeah well I guess I'm a terrible person.

Episode out:

So it turns out the painting was indeed poisonous. But also, that Takeshi tried to kill himself to get insurance money for his wife and child. Also, the art appraiser was behind everything, what an asshole.

Another interesting case with a twist, and it seems the main instigator is still at large, it might be a beginning of a longer arc.

Well, no particular surprises regarding the painting. The exact details would probably be impossible to guess but just the idea that Takeshi was using it to commit suicide for the insurance money was something that seemed pretty obvious last week.

Also this show isn't very good at making me care about the characters. I mean, I was mostly joking last week about Utsumi, but I just wanted him to actually be slightly interesting.

I got the page updated again with the character page done the same way.

You know, I kind of side with the teacher on the suicide debate.

Though I'm surprised it took them that long to consider the idea that it wasn't a suicide note to begin with. I figured it was a woman leaving her husband to be with a new lover but not having the courage to tell him herself.

I rather liked the perspective shift this episode, especially since it wasn't about Yuriko having unrequited feelings for Shoutaro or something equally cliche. Instead it was a serious look in her dealing with death, after having her grandma die, and trying to help someone despite not knowing them, and having no idea how to reach them. Nice.

Yuriko is a good character, and to my surprise she managed to carry most of the episode by herself. I also like how expressive she is, without it being exaggerated.

The teacher rises some good points, but in the end I just can't agree with him. The idea of just leaving someone in despair great enough to take their own life to their own devices is just to horrible to even consider.

Shonen! [lol]

This is pretty much all you mean in this show period boy.

The explanation for the mystery was quite interesting and much more positive in tone than one could expect.

[up]I did consider this, but discarded the idea on the grounds that it would make no sense to come to the bridge if that was the case. I actually suspected the answer might be that she was trying to start a new life after her husband death, because of the black (mourning) clothes and the theme of the show being "being trapped by the past" and when they mentioned the diamond being synthetic I was pretty convinced that it was made from body carbon, since that's the type of show it is.

In short a very good episode.

I had entirely forgotten that people actually sometimes make diamonds like that, so that bit didn't occur to me. It probably should have given the emphasis on it being a synthetic diamond, but I think I interpreted that as the husband being a jerk and the woman moving on to someone better.

And yeah I liked that she isn't in love with the kid or anything. And not just because I don't like him but because I like seeing platonic male/female relationships.

Honestly in this show someone is dead, so if the woman isn't killing herself, her husband is the next best guess.

...

I honestly though that this was where the episode was going, what with the episode starting with her friends asking about their relationship, egging her to ask him out, and her being alone at the festival, but five minutes in the episode went "We are a detective show dammit! Better have some mystery then!" and that plot thread was dropped.

It's funny that Sakurako was deemed to be the lost child. [lol]

Legit funny joke, Shoutarou in despair is good.

Good episode as others said, I really like how the show is going around with its theme. "A Story Dedicated To Those Trapped By The Past" indeed.

Okay, I like Yuri. That's two characters in this show that are fun!

Shoutarou is a terrible negotiator. And, as always, a complete spoilsport.

Isozaki knows how to flirt! Shoutarou is completely useless!

Christ, kid, are you really this bad at understanding Sakurako?

Bullying Shoutaro is fun

Being a whiny bitch helps. But not always.

I'm guessing the implication Shoutaro has is that Sakurako stole the cat bones or that she carries around bones of her dead pets?

I don't know, it's fine that he has some complaints about pets and feels upset, but what else is supposed to be the problem here?

Awww, Sakurako went to his School Festival. How nice of her.

Yuri is fun character indeed. Second favorite on the show. Yeah, Shoutaro accept your lot in life.

Once again Shoutaro turns into a bitchy bitch who bitches. Sakurako just ignores him and he has to go with it.

Sakurako doesn't like when people treat skeletons badly. But she can be bribed with cakes.

O yeah, Sakurako actually is engaged. This was mentioned like once at the beginning so I forgot.

Holy shit, what is Shoutaro problem? What is he bitching about now? Sakurako is fond of bones, why is it surprising to him that she would preserve her pet? I'm sure she'll do the same thing with Shoutaro once he dies.

It wouldn't be Sakurako-san without a skeleton in a closet. It seems to be a case Sakurako is interested in personally.

^^ Sakurako doesn't conform perfectly to his mental waifu standards so he has to change her to fit his whims. Obviously.

Okay, now that I don't think is being fair. It's fine to be surprised and not happy with that decision, since you know, typically people don't usually do that with pets and the point how it may be considered desecration. It's valid and so is her position. He didn't say that she should stop doing what she desires, he hasn't made demands for her to change for his convienence. Shocking, two people with different temperaments and values can disagree on something and even make up after it!

What needs to be critiqued is his concern that Sakurako is lacking in empathy. He's dead wrong in that since we have seen throughout the episodes that she is.
