Indeed. Jumpjets are good for flanking, getting the high ground, negating the high ground...
It's totally worth the heat generation and tonnage to load heavier mechs with jumps.
Still looking for more leg servos to make a Highlander with -60 self damage from DFA so I can Bury more often.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Jump jets are the greatest thing ever. I know I was going on earlier about how mechs should probably be heavier, but if they were then they wouldn't be as fast and maneuverable as they end up being, and jump jets certainly wouldn't work.
Even now they’re probably something like miniature rocket engines to lift multi-ton battle robots.
Aren't they fusion rockets powered by the 'Mech's reactor?
Sort of, though the descriptions in the technical manuals are vague-jump jets are basically using the fusion plant to superheat compressed air that is forced through the nozzles, essentially turning them into low grade plasma guns to provide thrust. They also carry supplementary fuel, to give them a limited number of uses in vacuum or if the compressors are damaged in combat.

I've really been sleeping on jumpjets to be honest.
I'm having real mobility issues because I don't have any of them for my heavy and assault mechs.
Oh really when?Still thinking like an FPS Mechwarrior instead of a Battletech Commander overseeing a board, eh?
None of the mechs I captured had them by default and I just sorta forgot to buy heavy ones
Oh really when?Well MWO did nerf the Jumpjets, lol.
Tesla Pods are now Lostech themselves. Not sure if Hilarious or Harsher in Hindsight, but definitely Life Imitating Art.

The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Reminds me of the Gundam pods I saw in a Japanese arcade.
Landed a headshot on a Banshee, so got my first Assault mech, woohoo! There was also a Zeus in that mission that I was gunning for, but it got hit in the CT and bit the dust.
On the upside, Banshees have insane armor when maxed. On the downside, stock Banshees in BT 2018 run with XL engines that use up most of their tonnage so you don't have much room for weapons, but at least they have a whopping 4 support weapon mounts so they can go max armor, 4 Jumpjets, 4 machine guns, and a medium laser and still have a couple tons free for something else while playing a "fast melee" Assault.
Use the spare tons on arm servos for melee damage or something, and fit it with a Gyro for hit defense or stability defense (and obviously a reinforced cockpit). Now the tactic is to jump towards enemies while bracing to draw aggro, then start punching them when you're close up. Meanwhile your lancemates rain PPC and LRM artillery on them from a distance.

The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!I did manage to pick up a nice arm servo that adds +40 to melee damage, and another that adds +20 to melee stability damage. I originally had my Dragon kitted out for melee brawler, but I'll probably strip it, store it, and refit the Banshee for that role now.
I hope this means good things for the game.
I'd like official mod support like Paradoxes other titles at least.
Oh really when?Cynical part of me says "Prepare for 200 individual mech dlcs and variant mech dlcs"
BTW, why does flamer have ammo? I remember them not needing ammo normally isn't it?
Give me cute or give me...something?Well flamethrowers require fuel, don't they?
Depends on the model. Good quality models draw from the fusion reactors and have no ammo limit, while vehicles without one have to make due with a limited napalm mixture. Even before the Succession Wars blew everything to crap, though, fuel based Flamers were occasional refits when mech-appropriate Flamers were in short supply. And a few Chassis had to mount them because the design did not allow for a reactor Flamer setup, like the Hermes.
Why they decided to do so in this game...shrugs
^ That basically. Jump Jets are basically expelled fusion fuel anyway, and that has unlimited uses, so why not Flamers?
Also, speaking of Paradox accquiring HBS...I wonder if they'll eventually make WOD RPG games...

Give me cute or give me...something?I'm not sure how it relates? Does Paradox have WOD liscences?
Flamers had limited ammo added in the Beta for balance reasons. It was possible for four Firestarters to stunlock and kill four Atlas'
^^ Yep. They bought White Wolf from CCP back in 2015, and HBS also did Shadowrun RPG before...
Give me cute or give me...something?I'd legit commit illegal acts for a Harebrained WOD game. We've missed out on that universe being properly developed. Bloodlines was beautiful. Vampyr's doing a good job but maaan we need something that GETS the mechanics and world.
Also, gonna try to pick this one up soon, once I've cleared my backlog.
Jumpjets make most missions quite doable even with heavies.
