I've always wondered what characters will feel when they learn they are being used for...ahem, less than pure purposes.

Depends on how pure they are.

The same way you would if you were being used for less than pure purposes, I suppose.

Considering that there are many different types of characters, I guess my question wasn't specific enough.

I guess shy characters would be horrified at the idea. evil grin

Back to on-topic, after watching the first season, I think Ikki isn't cut out to be a knight.

Instead, he would be a kickass assassin.

Cross posting from the Mahouka thread.

Man, I feel so bad for comparing this series with that one during the earliest episodes. This show doesn't have mindless main character shilling, ridiculously overpowered main character, and blatant xenophobia and nationalism.

I think the comparison is fair, if you add, "but handled better," to it. There are certainly elements and ideas that are very similar, but that doesn't mean they're equally well written.

This shows that delivery matters, since even though Ikki wins all of his fights, you don't get the same "BEHOLD Magical Jesus" feeling you get with Tatsuya.

The main character is, at least in the setting, almost as overpowered as Saitama is in One Punch Man's setting, in that there's nobody who can possibly pose a real threat to him. Of course, it doesn't have a deep and meaningful character exploration that OPM has, so it's very boring to watch.

And yet I watched all the episodes and read up to, what was it, 8th volume of the light novel? Chalk it up to vile fascination. [lol]

I have a friend who genuinely enjoyed that show. He knows enough about the mythology that he corrects me about it since I only read bout the shit. I planned on getting him a light novel at some point. He also really likes SAO so I guess hes into the genre.

Eh not really. I think he just likes the effects such as the cool battle sequences. I recall him showing me a scene from Mahouka where the guy finished the fight with that badass finger-snap & I thought that was pretty cool. Besides he dosnt mind mostly when I bash SAO or how I want to dethrone Yui from the pantheon as God of Adopted Children at some point in my life. I did buy him vol 1 of Progressive for his birthday & he does enjoy it though its taking a while to finish.

It was a couple of years ago. Think we were still in middle school back then. It was prolly around the time the anime came out & things are usually more well liked near their start I think. In my case the scene was also showed to me with absolutely no context & I only saw the end which was the finger-snap itself. Hell I really liked SAO once, I bought a Kirito plushie a long time ago.

I remember reading the manga and couldn't stomach how mary sueish the MC sounded. Now, give me a man who has endured hardships, has suffered for it and still have the gall to smile at them and say: yu mad bro? Now, gimme Ikki. Seriously, for each volume of the LN I read the more I like him. He's strong, but needs to work hard a lot to win (and suffers a lot in the process), he's thoughtful and kind. And not a frigging moron like 95% of Shounen M Cs. Hell, yeah.

(spoiler alert, read at your own peril) And regarding Stella's lack of screen time during combats, I think it's because the author was planning to save her for the climax at vol 9, where she fights Ikki on the final of the Tournament, from what a friend of mine told me, it's balls to the wall awesome.

Does Rakudai have an LN thread or anything?

Because Stella's finally getting the chance to cut loose in a 4 on 1, and it's been pretty great so far. She took two full power strikes from the current villains without a scratch and powered through a broken arm to OHKO one of them by shattering her ribs.
