Also another world-building question, how large of a area has been taken? A country, multiple, a continent, EVERYTHING? Or a IRL comparison, just to get a idea of scale for this endeavor.

I haven't worked out a map yet aside from the general geography, but it's a significant area. Everything from the mountains in the east to the western shore where the former Capital is. The conquests have slowed significantly, with the orc tribes in the north resisting the Dark Lord but bleeding members to his armies at a fair rate. The general feeling is one of occupation rather than open war anymore.

So I'd love to go under review, but I can't seem to catch you on skype at any time.

Here's a rough map of the countryside. It's... admittedly very rough, but hopefully everything makes sense. The Dark Lord is living in the former capital city, in the northwest.

Interesting... It seems this whole section is inland, well that is certainly good to know.

What is the Char? (or would we know)

Your characters won't know, but it's a huge section of slash-and-burn deforestation cut into the Forest of the Gods by the Dark Lord's army.

What's the wildlife like around the area? Is it more mundane animals, or fantastic ones? How dangerous is the average animal?

The average animals are pretty normal. Wolves and stuff, bears, deer and so on. Maybe some lynxes, coyotes and related. The average villager would probably be able to scare an aggressive animal away with some effort and would be pretty shaken after the encounter, but woodcutters still do get killed by roaming packs of wolves, angry bears, and bad-luck encounters like that.

The real threat to armed soldiers are the demonically corrupted animals and Gods. Regular animals that have been touched by fel energy are smarter (though still not sentient), resistant to pain, and vicious to the point that they'll endanger themselves recklessly to harm a living being. Demonically corrupted Gods are living sources of fel taint, toxic to their surroundings. They're immense, twisted monstrosities that exist only to cause pain to their domains and themselves.
