I doubt that you can really blame the 3DS port. The game's more than a year old at this point, people were bound to be not that interested in playing it. Especially when there's other games to be played.
Yeah, the one thing I always think/hear is that online games that need communities to play them usually end up getting old or worn out, and then the playerbase just stops playing and moves on. You know, normal, basic stuff. Not every multiplayer game can live as long as Worms Armageddon or Minecraft. It's the reason you'd be hard pressed to still find people in the online games of Return To Castle Wolfenstein or an old Call of Duty game that most people don't think about. Of course, by not accounting for this common phenomenon by simply adjusting their level deletion system, Nintendo has once again shot themselves in the foot.
...If they even care about Mario Maker any more.

H.B. WardWhat also killed the community, to me anyway, is the flood of absolutely shitty levels or really well designed levels that are just too hard for the average player. It's the Mario ROM hacks all over again.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Damn... If only more creators were like Us.
H.B. WardI only made a few levels, but none of them got much attention. I think my most popular level has about 25 stars, but it's the most popular by far. Usually I'll be lucky if I get 5-10 stars.
Sometimes I think people only like automatic levels. I've made hard levels and easy levels (though I never deviate too much from what you'd find in a real Mario game), but the reaction has always been lukewarm.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?I get a steady trickle of stars from two levels in particular, one being an adaptation of Mr. Bones' Wild Ride and the other being World 1-1 without the ground tiles.
So I mean, pretty much what you'd expect.
I sure said that!I get a steady trickle of stars from my own 1-1 recreation, but other than that I'm pretty stagnant. I also haven't made a level in a long time, ran out of ideas.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I really should get back on the saddle and finish my frustrating underwater mirror maze, but now I'm nort sure if it would stay up for long...? Well, still gonna make it.
But first I should make an exmass level.
Here's a quick level I made in the last few days of vacation. Nothing special and I think I would have come up with something more ambitious had I not been sucked into Splatoon.
I would definitely be playing these levels right about now, but I took my Wii U out of the lounge, and now it's basically in storage. Stuff had to be kind of renovated during Christmas last year or whatever.
...And, to be honest, I feel kind of alienated by this game. Until after Housing Block, I had no troubles keeping my uploads secure, because back then, for some reason or another, people really played and starred those after they went up. In a matter of hours. The problem is not that I've got no recent stars. The problem is that Nintendo sees fit to find levels with no stars and delete them. Illuminati Confirmed and The Murmuring Caves were really popular, and I think it's simply because more people were playing back then. They weren't even my best maps.
Long after then, I was making maps like Roaring Aircraft and Average Mario World after having quite a strange hiatus from the game. The only really big difference between Roaring Aircraft and Murmuring Caves or Average Mario World and Infested Castle is that they didn't get much attention.
Yeah, I know, I may technically be considered biased. I am talking about my own creations right now. But I have a history of reasonably successful small-time maps that are still up on my bookmark profile. I honestly do not believe that I ever made a So Bad, It's Horrible map on this platform. I'd certainly never do it on purpose. Now that I can never guarantee that any given course I spend a good portion of my day crafting, I think I'd rather just learn Lua better and code my own games.
Of course I can still play this game to browse other people's creations, basically. But when I do that I'm going to religiously star every course I see that doesn't already have one on it.
H.B. WardRandomness thought it was a good time to share "2" levels...
Random-NES: Hazardous Castle) 1B70-0000-02E2-D769
Random-NES: Underground Challenge) A203-0000-02E3-8A27

Emphasis on "2"...

YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. There's certainly some 2's in the serial codes.
H.B. WardYour darn right...
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.You know, I'm honestly considering getting the 3DS version of Mario Maker. I think part of my problem with designing levels was that I had to be right there in front of my Wii U to actually put them together, which for me is in a totally different room from my computer or anything else I could do in the meantime while I'm trying to think of new ideas. With the 3DS version, I could literally just leave an ongoing level sitting next to me, then pick it up and add to it whenever I got the urge.
What do you guys think? Anyone else follow that logic?
Decided to boot this game up after many months of inactivity.
Pleased to see that The Most Annoying Stage Ever still has a 0 percent clear rate.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Seeing as my brand-new fucking XBOX is still playing up and not working, maybe it's time to bring my old Alienationtendo Wii-U out again. I'll see what people have been playing, but definitely no promises on the uploading levels front. I don't want to risk losing a great deal of effort and hard-thought-through level design to the bots again.
H.B. WardAre people still playing Mario Maker on Wii U? There's a Pokemon-themed level I've been meaning to finish and upload, but if nobody's going to play it, I don't see the point.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?What's your Nintendo ID? I might be able to star it for you and hopefully get it granted immortality.
H.B. WardWell, I need to finish it first! I may work on it tonight. Thanks, though! I'll post here when it's done.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Alright, that does it. I'm gonna play this game again, because my home's spatial areas are SMM-nostalging the fuck out of me for no reason and I want to reunite with it. Gonna set up my Wii U now.
H.B. WardIs it actual content, or just some performance/bug fixes?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
I wonder if Mario Maker 3DS has something to do with it.
You know, I don't really know if that's the case considering the rather cold reception it got, now that I think about it. Has anyone on here even bought the 3DS version of MM?
"Lucian, don’t be afraid, we’ll make it through this."
