Newcomers: The rules are important, and may be counterintuitive. Make sure you read and fully understand them if you want to participate!

Rules:

Each player (as denoted by their forum name), at any one time, has particular whole numbers of various types of 'goods' and 'producers'. The currently extant types are listed later in this post.

Players take turns by posting, completing each turn within a single post. A player may not take multiple turns in a row, either inside one post or in multiple posts (they must wait for some other player to take a turn first). When a player takes a turn, they first perform a 'production phase' and then a 'building phase'. They must state in their post what they do during these phases, as well as their current quantites of goods and producers at the end of the turn. Players may talk in their posts, and may post without taking a turn, but the latter should be kept to a minimum, for reasons that will become clear below. Players also may not edit a post to change what occurred during that turn (other than to correct an arithmetic error), or to edit a turn into a post that did not originally involve one.

Production phase: The player chooses a (uniformly distributed) random number from 1 to the number of the latest preceding post, and looks up the post in the thread with that number. They then choose to run any single type of producer that the player who made that post had at the end of that turn (regardless of what that player currently has), up to the maximum number of producers of that type as indicated in that post. The effect of the producers works on the current player's current stockpile of goods. Note that some producers have limitations on their functionality (for instance, requiring the sacrifice of certain goods to create others), so it may not always be possible to run all the available producers of a given type.

For randomizing a post number, you can use any suitable and reliable source of random numbers, such as Wolfram Alpha or random.org (I also have a tool on my website you can use). Note that the Nth post will always be on the Xth page of the thread where X=ceil(N/25). You can jump to any page in the thread by editing the page number in the URL bar, and posts are also marked by their absolute number in the thread. Don't worry about being ninjaed; you should regard the last post in the thread as you currently see it to be the final post for the purposes of randomly choosing a post. (Also, you may not roll separately for the page number and the relative post number within that page.)

Ideally, we'll keep the proportion of posts that don't involve taking turns to a minimum- if you want to ask a question, it'd be nice to take your turn at the same time, or PM me. However, if a player randomly selects a post without a turn in it, proceed as follows: Roll another random number from 1 to 25 and jump back that many posts (i.e. subtract that number from your original random number) to find a new post to use, repeating as necessary, until you hit a post that involves a turn, then continue with your turn as usual. If you jump to a post number 0 or lower, then instead jump to 1 (i.e. this post). Posts that do involve turns but where an arithmetic error has been committed should also be treated this way, although hopefully arithmetic errors will be rare and quickly corrected.

Building phase: The player may perform any of the available 'recipes', as listed in this post, in any whole number or combination, limited only by the amount of stuff they currently have (after their current turn's production phase) and the integral constraint (i.e. you may not perform a 'fraction' of a recipe). A recipe typically consumes a quantity of goods and creates a new producer for the current player, although some recipes may create goods instead, or even consume the current player's producers.

When any given player begins their very first turn, they automatically have certain things to start with, namely: Goods consisting of 8 food and 4 wood, and producers consisting of 1 berry picker and 1 woodcutter. The master list of currently available goods, producers and recipes is given below.

If the game is successful, I will gradually be adding more goods, producers and recipes. Any such changes will be edited into this post at the time.

Currently available things:

Goods:

  • Food
  • Wood

Producers:

  • Berry picker: Each create 1 food.
  • Woodcutter: Each create 1 wood.
  • Hunter: Each pay 1 wood, create 3 food.

Recipes:

  • Pay 10 food, create 1 berry picker
  • Pay 10 food, create 1 woodcutter
  • Pay 10 food + 5 wood, create 1 hunter

This post will be considered the first turn in the game for the purposes of randomizing a post for production, and the only turn with no production phase (because no previous turns exist). Accordingly, I'll state my current goods and producers:

My current goods:

  • 8 food
  • 4 wood

My current producers:

  • 1 berry picker: Each create 1 food.
  • 1 woodcutter: Each create 1 wood.

Seems overcomplicated for a forum game, but I'll give it a go.

Start of the turn

My current goods

  • 8 food
  • 4 wood

My current producers

  • 1 berry picker (-> 1 food)
  • 1 woodcutter (-> 1 wood)

Production phase

Random post between 1 and 1 : 1 (duh)

Producer : 1 berry picker -> +1 food

Building phase

No recipe can be performed.

End of the turn

My current goods

  • 9 food
  • 4 wood

My current producers

  • 1 berry picker (-> 1 food)
  • 1 woodcutter (-> 1 wood)

Did I do it right ?
