Raider, Kensei, and Lawbringer all get mentioned as needing buffs, and they all share the common trait of having wide, slow attacks. This is in contrast to the assassins and Nobushi, whom all have quick attacks along with dashing attacks. The assassin cheese as it were is to try to throw out as many fast attacks from as many different angles as possible.

However, Warlord and Conqueror are considered quite strong because of their high defensive abilities, so maybe in a way they counter assassin cheese? For the most part I think the classes are fairly well balanced, and good technical skill with any of them can take you very far. Warden is high tier, but I think that's less to do with him being strong in any one area and more to do with having a larger variety of tools to work with (Crushing Counter, Shoulder Bash mixup, and fast zone attack shenanigans). I rarely ever see Shugoki on PS 4, but he seems to be in a good spot, he just takes a little getting used to. Valk also seems to be in good spot after the patches. Outside of light attack spam, I don't think the assassins or Nobushi are too strong; once you get wind of their light attack methods they're not so hard to beat.

For the life of me though Conquerors are always hard for me to fight. They turtle hard and it is so hard to get them to open up. I feel like they can change guard much faster, and on top of that have their own shoulder bash vortex, though it's not as good as Warden's. Warlord I have a slightly easier time fighting, but his free stab after a headbutt and his ridiculous throw distance make him very strong. I might change it so he can only do a normal throw like everyone else off a guard break, but to do the throw where he can shove you in any direction for several meters a more special move that can only be done as some kind of setup.

I've heard that to make Kensei stronger, he should be able to cancel heavies into lights. Speed seems to be what he needs most, or access to fast attacks more often. I'm not really sure how to buff Lawbringer though. Maybe put more emphasis on stamina damage. That being said, I have fought some incredibly good Lawbringers who didn't need the environment to kick my ass. He may just need his counter attacks reworked a bit.

So, I bought the Orochi and tried him out.

He definitely plays different from the Warden; I died a lot more with him, though that may have been because it wasn't opening weekend anymore and people are more used to the game.

Either way I do like Orochi. A lot faster, and his feats are more creative (even if I do miss the catapult the Warden gets).

This is Mordhau. It's already passed both it's initial Kickstarting funding goal and the first stretch-goal. If For Honor impresses you, I think some of you will appreciate this.

This is how you do a multiplayer melee combat game- you are in control of your character in literally every second of gameplay and the fighting system is fully dynamic, letting you control the precise angle of your cuts and the outcome of your attacks up to the fraction of a second that they actually hit your enemy.

Ugh, I can not get parries down for some reason.

Well I'm here to make you feel worse about yourself by showing that this is possible.

Are you watching the swing? I ended up doing that, because logically you might get stunned one day or targeted by an unblockable so then you'll have to, but I honestly do find that works better for me than the UI stance indicator.

Yeah, it seems more like timing than anything; I've done it before but it seems more like I'm doing it too early or too late or something...

I've found that the Warden's crushing counter doesn't work on some attacks. I don't think it works on unblockables or within certain strings, specifically the Kensei top heavy finisher. I can parry it but I can't crush counter it. I can't really test it by myself unless someone wants to help me.

Kensei really needs a buff, he has like one thing going for her, and it is more visible then a lighthouse on a clear night. :/

I'd say Kensei would more need something like making it so it's impossible to parry while out of stamina. Aside from that, Kensei's got a good bit of mix-ups even if they aren't guaranteed with the dash attacks.

Tweaks to the general combat system to fight off turtling are probably more needed - which would hopefully let the Kensei's range become more valuable then while it's slightly more a greater distance that the enemy can parry you at the moment.

The most straightforward way to break defense is through mixing up fast attacks, hence the strength of assassins. Using heavy feints can help, but really only if the opponent is trying to parry you. You could do a feint into a dashing light, but the kensei's dashing lights are slow. So, you'll have to use the forward dash light OR a guardbreak. In that case, the opponent just has to keep the guard point up and be ready to counter break. One way or another you have to take time to condition the opponent, but it's very difficult if they're really solely on reaction and not prediction.

One tip I could give is to use the kensei's dash attack when the opponent is using a shield/shoulder/kick move. I haven't seen it used much yet, but the dash attack to the side may be able to beat the warden's shoulder bash mixup, much like an assassin and nobushi can. Be care though, because as a warden I know to bait out those dash attacks so I can parry them. I usually feint the second heavy attack in a combo chain because I know they're easy to parry on reaction, and the shoulder charge can be feinted as well.

I was told apparently the Orochi's deflect's a real thing (of course, they don't bend down as much and just let the opposing sword impact their own for a moment as a real thing):

Got my first hate mail in the game from a guy who switched characters each time he lost. I was sticking with Nobushi just to get the order done and he bitches at me for spamming, even though he managed to win at least half the games. He did beat my Nobushi with his own Nobushi, which was kind of embarrassing, but had an awful Conqeror. Dude bitched at me for spamming even though he kept spamming shield bash. Looking at his stats, he's good but doesn't win quite as often as I do.

I'm willing to bet that most of his duel wins come less from skill and more from just switching characters so much, because once you read him he's easy. His PS 4 tag is InGodWeTrust124 so if you see him give him hell for being a salty ass.

Yeah I think I am done with this game for a while if not inevitably. I am fucking sick of trying to learn new heroes only to be bumrushed by prestiges because the matchmaking fucking sucks. I do not have the time nor the patience to try at this point.

There are some big updates coming according to a couple of the recent official livestreams; Revenge stats are getting nerfed, as are the debuff resistance (it made it harder to GB someone after a parry) and sprint speed stat; boosts in Elimination will take longer to spawn in and acquire; Lawbringer is going to get some major buffs, Peacekeeper is getting nerfs, and few other characters are getting tweaks (Kensei, Raider, and Berserker IIRC). They're also increasing the amount of steel you get, so that's good. No word yet on when the DLC heroes will drop.

Are people still talking about this?

I got it for free with my Video Card when I built my new computer and I have to say, I've been having fun with it (even if I have yet to invest in anything other than the Warden for multiplayer- But I just got that working semi-reliably a few hours ago)

I don't talk about things when I could be playing them instead.

...so yeah, I'm still playing it.

I haven't played it in a while, normally because I haven't been home enough.

Stopped playing, got sick of the problems pervading the game which is sad as the combat itself can be very fun.

[up]I really, really like the Nobushi's new one.

Really wish the PK Light spam had been addressed.

They are heading in the right direction I guess. And I'd definitely use a lot of those new executions.
