Joni Mitchell was in the news about a month ago but not due to favorable reason. She was hospitalised after losing consciousness in her home. It turned out that she suffered from a brain aneurysm. Hope she gets well soon.

A fan of her for a year, I think she's a good topic to discuss about. Compared to her Woodstock-era contemporaries, I find her relatively popular in the indie community, as well as having achieved a certain status shared by later singers like Kate Bush and Bjork. Both of the latter have their own threads here. So why not Joni?

Although I adore her work in general, I don't share the general consensus of her fanbase (or fandom? what's the difference?). Note that I have only covered her pre-1980 singles and a few of her albums. I listened to the album "Blue" before the album "Court and Spark". Both are masterpieces but I prefer "Court and Spark". In the latter, I find the jazz influence and the addition of a backing band making that album more captivating after repeated listens, more so than "Blue". "Ladies of the Canyon" is criminally underrated in my opinion. Is it just me or female musicians in the 1960s and early 1970s are often sidetracked due to testosterone-filled rock bands taking much of their rightful place?

I'm more interested in your opinions on Joni's music than to continue my blabbering. Write what you think.

Hope she gets better. She's been through some rough shit every few years.

I still have to listen to the albums I have. I did listened to some of her songs, and I can say I quite like "Hejira" and "Shadows And Light".
